Quarter 3 – Module 3
Solving Corresponding Parts of
Congruent Triangles
(Week 5)
About the Module
This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help you
understand Solving Corresponding Parts of Congruent Triangles. The scope of this
module permits it to be used in many different learning situations. The language
used recognizes the diverse vocabulary level of students. The lessons are arranged
to follow the standard sequence of the course.

What I Know (Pre-Test)
Instructions. Choose the letter of the best answer. Write the chosen letter
on a separate sheet of paper.
4. Triangles GHI and JKL are both equilateral triangles and ∠H corresponds to
∠K, what is their measurement?
A. 50° C. 70°
B. 60° D. 80°

What I Need To Know
What’s In
TRIANGLE POSTULATES
What’s New
TRY THIS!
1. Look for any parallelogram shape furniture or object in your house, it could be
your table, picture frame or any.
2. Using a ruler, create an imaginary diagonal line from the vertex of the side of the
furniture or object going to the opposite side’s vertex. You are expected to follow this
shape. A B
D C

3. You will be able to have 2 triangles, based on the shape created, label the two
triangles, the first triangle is ABC and the second triangle is CDA, and measure
the sides of the two triangles and answer the following questions.
a. What is the measurement of the following sides?
Segment AD? Segment BC?
Segment AB? Segment CD?
Segment AC?
b. Do they have the same measurement? Why do you say so?
c. Is triangle ABC congruent to triangle CDA? Why do you say so?
Based on the activity, you were able to find out the triangle ABC and triangle CDA
have the same measurement of sides as they correspond to each other. The activity
will lead you to understand more how to solve corresponding parts of congruent
triangles.
What Is It
DEFINITION OF TERMS:
Congruent triangles – two triangles having the same angles and sides
Corresponding parts – parts that match between two congruent triangles
Corresponding angles – angles with the same measurement in the pair of similar
triangles
Corresponding sides – sides with the same measurement in the pair of similar
triangles
Congruent symbol - ≅
Example 1:
THINK OF IT!
You are holding a foldable rectangular mirror. The mirror can be
folded diagonally, and the shape became a triangle which are congruent
to each other. You labeled the rectangle mirror as DEFG. What
are the corresponding parts? If segment DE measures 8 inches and
segment DG measures 3 inches, what are the measurement of their
corresponding parts? If angle E measures 90 degrees, what are the
measurement of the corresponding angle?
8 in.
D E
90°
3 in.

Step 2: Identify the corresponding parts.

G F₂
Example 2:
CAT ≅ PEW. Identify the corresponding parts and find the value of a,
b and c.

C C

ANSWERS:
CA ≅ PE ∠C ≅ ∠P or ∠ ACT ≅ ∠ EPW
AT ≅ EW ∠A ≅ ∠E or ∠ CAT ≅ ∠ PEW
CT ≅ PW ∠T ≅ ∠W or ∠ CTA ≅ ∠ PWE
MEASUREMENTS
1. Solving for the value of a.
-Since segment PE and segment CA are congruent to each other and
PE = 13; CA = a + 5, the solution is:
a + 5 = 13
a = 13 – 5
a=8
b–2=7
b=7+2
b=9
c-4 = 6
c=6+4
c = 10

• If two triangles are congruent then their corresponding sides and angles
are also congruent.
What I Can Do
Instruction. Read the situation below and answer the following questions.
Jenny will have her birthday this Saturday and she wants to have a congruent
triangular birthday cakes as she is obsessed of triangles. Her cakes look like the
photo below.
CAKE 1 CAKE 2
QUESTIONS:
1. If cake 1 is labeled as BEN and cake 2 as TAK, write the corresponding
parts.
2. If segment BE measures 10 inches, what is the measurement of its
corresponding side?
3. If ∠B measures 55° and ∠N equals 45°, what is the measurement of the
other angles?

B. Corresponding parts are not the same.
C. Corresponding sides and angles are equal.
D. Corresponding sides are the same and their corresponding angles are
neither equal.
4. Triangles GHI and JKL are both equilateral triangles. If ∠G measures 60°,
what is the measurement of ∠L?
A. 60° C. 100°
