Instruction: Calculate/solve the following problems. NO SOLUTION NO CREDIT.

PROBLEM 101:
Given the building as illustrated is to be built with light weight metal as warehouse building.
Calculate the design wind load pressures for this structure in accordance with Analytical
Procedure on wind load calculation stipulated on the NSCP-2015.

Location: San Carlos, Pangasinan

Occupancy Category: Standard Occupancy

Terrain: Flat terrain
Dimensions: 7.6 m x 62.37 m
Gable roof 22°
1.2 m roof overhang in the 7.6-m direction

SITE DEVELOPMENT PLAN

TYPICAL PLAN
Solution:
Analysis Procedure: (Ref: Section 207B)
The light metal warehouse building complies with the conditions of section 207B1.12, therefore the
Directional Procedure of Section 207B shall be used.

Occupancy Category: (Ref: Table 103-1)

The building is given to be under Standard Occupancy or
Occupancy Category IV.

Basic Wind Speed, V:

(Ref: Figure 207A.5-1B)
The structure is located in San Carlos, Pangasinan
and by using the wind hazard map, the basic wind
speed may be taken as 260kph
V = 72.22 m/s.

Exposure Category: (Ref: Section 207A.7.2 & 207A.7.3)

The building is located in an urban area as described in surface roughness B. Thus, the exposure category shall be
taken as
Exposure B.

Enclosure Classification: (Ref: Section 207A.10)

The building is classified as
enclosed.

Wind Directionality Factor, Kd: (Ref: Table 207A.6-1)

The building is under MWFRS (Main Wind Force Resisting System). Thus, use
Kd = 0.85.

Topographic Factor, Kzt: (Ref: Section 207A.8.1)

The buildings’ location topography does not meet all the conditions as specified in section 207A.8.1 of NSCP. Thus,
Kzt = 1.0.

Gust Effect Factor, G: (Ref: Section 207A.9.1)

Section 207A.9.1 of the code permits consideration of the building as rigid if the building fits the definition based on
its approximate natural frequency being greater or equal to 1.0 Hz. Alternatively, the example building is less than
18m in height and therefore, it may be considered a rigid building. The value of the gust factor may be taken as
𝐆 = 𝟎. 𝟖𝟓

Velocity Pressures, qz: (Ref: Equation 207B.3-1)

Velocity pressure is determined using the following equation.
N
q z = q h = 0.613K z K zt K d V 2 ;V in m/s
m2

2/𝑎
𝑧
Where, 𝐾𝑧 = 2.01 ( ) For 4.5 m ≤ z ≤ zg:

Substituting known values we have,

q z = 0.613(k 𝑧 )(1.0)(0.85)(72.222 )
𝐪𝐳 = 𝟐𝟕𝟏𝟕. 𝟔𝟓𝟓(𝐤𝒛 )
Values for Kz and the resulting velocity are computed and shown in Table 1. Wall pressure will be evaluated at various
segments
