Project Title: 
Letter formation using straight lines and curved lines.

General Project Goal for Students: 


For this particular project, students will focus on letter formation. Students will
learn how to form letters using straight lines and curve lines. Students will focus on
just capital letters for this particular project. Students will use various digital tools
to help enhance their knowledge of letter formation. Also, they will learn how to
use hand manipulatives to teach shapes of the letters, which will help with fine
motor. Students will be introduced to a letter once a week.

Specific Outcomes:
 Students will learn to use straight lines and little lines to form letters 
 Students will learn to use big curves and little curves to form letters
 Students will learn how to use various digital tools to help form letters. 
 Students will use hand manipulatives tools to help with fine motor.
 Students will work individually to demonstrate the skills and knowledge of
using different shapes within hand writing without tears to form letters.

Audience: 
A group of 4-year-olds will complete this project. The estimated time for this
project is 5 days. This lesson will take place on daily basis for 30 minutes.

Lesson Description:
Students will learn how to use big curves and little curves to form letters. Students
will learn how to differentiate between the four basic shapes to make all the letters:
big lines, little lines, big curves, and little curves. Students will engage in various
lessons to help them learn to build and form the letters independently.
Timeline:
Day 1 Teacher will introduce Handwriting without Tears concept to
students. Teacher will explain the four basic shapes to write letter
formation.
Also, teacher will introduce Where do you start your letter at the
top? Video
Day 2 Student will listen to audio version of Where do you start your
letter at the top?
Lesson 1: Student will use manipulative wood pieces from
Handwriting without tears.
Lesson2: Finger Painting activity

Day 3 Student will listen to audio version of Where do you start your
letter at the top?
Lesson 1: Students will work on letter formation using Handwriting
without Tears APP version.
Lesson 2: Teacher will create an activity where Students will used
scissors to cut straight lines. This activity will help their fine motor
skills.

Day 4 Student will listen to audio version of Where do you start your
letter at the top?
Lesson 1: Student will use Step and Screen by using playdough to
form letters
Lesson 2: Students will play in shaving cream and use their fingers
to draw letters on the table.

Day 5 Student will listen to audio version of Where do you start your
letters at the top?
Lesson 1: Teacher will create lesson on google Jamboard for
students.
Lesson 2: Teacher will create an activity which will require for
students to use tweezers. This activity helps with Fine motor.

Teacher will show a Handwriting without Tears Video:

entertaining video will show and demonstrate to students how to start
their letters.

After watching the Video, students will know how to start their letters
which is at the top. Teacher will have students sit in a big circle and go
through the hand motion.

Student Role:
Once student views the Handwriting without tears video. Teacher will
then play the audio version and students will use their fingers to
demonstrate and recall where do they start their letters?

Design Phase:

Teacher Role:
Teacher will help student individually log on to Handwriting without
tears and sign on to Mat Man. Once student is logged on, student
will work on the Mat Man activity. The online tool will ask students
to choose the right wood piece to create Mat Man.

Student Role:
Mat Man activity will ask students to find wood pieces to create Mat
MAN. This lesson will teach students body awareness in a multisensory
way. When the computer system calls out the wood piece, student will
have to decide on the correct wood piece. This activity will introduce
students to the four basic shapes to make letter.

Teacher Role:

Teacher will give students a few letters to focus on for that particular
lesson. The handwriting without tears lesson will show students how to
form the letter.

Student Role:
Once students see how to form the letter, then student will begin to use
their fingers and apply it on the computer screen and trace the letter.

Teacher will use rubric to evaluate students’ ability to form letters using the correct
line shapes.

Student Role:
Student will be able demonstrate how to start their letters and what
correct shape lines goes to which letters.
