UNIT CONCEPT REVIEW DICTATION:

1) KEYNOTE
Globalization is forcing businesses to make cost savings by reducing operating costs.
One way to do this is by outsourcing - transferring business processes such as order processing or call
center management to outside suppliers and service providers. Offshoring is a new form of
outsourcing where businesses relocate back-office operations in overseas facilities where labor costs
are lower.

2) TOPIC ILLUSTRATION
Nike has being acclaimed as the largest maker of athletic shoes in the world does not manufacture
even one shoe by itself. It has strategically outsourced 100 percent of its shoe production and only
manufacture a few of its technical components.
It has concentrated on their major competence which is research and development (preproduction
phase) and marketing, distribution and sales (post production phase). Having developed an on-site
program, which helps them coordinate all its suppliers and affiliates, Nike also outsourced its
advertisements to Wieden & Kennedy. This is the most strategic way of converting the weakness in to
strength, concentrating on what you know how to do best.

3) GRAMMAR SAMPLE

Luisa recently returned from a conference in Dubai and told her colleagues about her trip there.
She said that the architecture of Dubai was really fascinating, with many new buildings of glass and
steel. Of course, she also saw the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. Some of her friends went up
to the top, but Luisa said she didn’t because she has a fear of heights. “I don’t even like being on a
second-story balcony, so the Burj Khalifa was definitely out of the question for me!”
Luisa said that there were many shopping centers in Dubai, but that they were expensive. The
weather was “unbelievably hot.”
On her last night in Dubai, Luisa and her friends went on a dinner cruise on a small boat in the harbor.
There was music and great food, and they could see the lights of the city as the boat cruised through
the harbor. “It was the perfect ending to two weeks in Dubai,” she said.
