chuck palahniuk’s novel Fight Club greatly influenced me as a Fictional writer. First, his use of the
unreliable narrator fascinated me, and I have written similar characters in my works. Second, the
theme of patriarchal opresion can also be found in the stories I write. Third, the novel’s stunning twist
is something that I have been trying to recreate. Thus, I am extrimely grateful to have encountered
Palahniuk’s genius early in my writing career.

Transitions (or signal words) are words and phrases that show the connection between ideas.

Some types of signal words:


1. Addition words tell you that the writer’s thought is going to continue in the same direction. He is going to
add more points or details of the same kind. Addition words are typically used to signal enumeration. Look
over some additional words. Sample:

1. Despite favorable surface conditions, there were throughout the 1920’s defects in the American economy. First,
