in Springfield Massachusetts. He wanted to create an indoor activity for the students of the
school of Christian workers during the wintertime.

the ball. It's required in order for a player to take steps while possessing the ball. A basic skill
done by pushing the ball repeatedly to the floor.

Cross-Over Dribble – This is one of the types of Dribbling Skills. Where the ball handler
changes the ball from one hand to the other via a dribble. This is a fundamental dribbling
technique in basketball used to keep the ball in the hand furthest from the defender (preventing
a steal) while maintaining the desired speed and heading on the court.
Between-The-Legs (Dribble) – This is one of the types of Dribbling Skills. Commonly used
a variation of the crossover in which the ball handler bounces the ball off of the floor between
his legs and catches it with the other hand on the opposite side of his body. It is used as a safer
way to cross over while directly facing a defender or to temporarily obscure the ball from the
defender's vision while a change in direction or pass is made.

Behind-The-Back – This is one of the types of Dribbling Skills. This advanced dribbling
technique involves dribbling the ball behind the back either once (as a form of crossover) or
continuously.

Rapid Dribbling – This is one of the types of Dribbling Skills. A distinct type of dribbling can
only be performed while the ball is low to the ground and with little bounce. This involves
slapping the ball rapidly, either with one hand or alternating between both hands, creating the
necessary rhythm of slaps and bounces needed to keep the ball bouncing.

Passing – This skill used to advance the ball toward the players teammates in performing the
skill, both the passer and receiver should have good coordination to make the pass successful.

Chest pass – This is one of the types of passing skill in Basketball. It is the most common pass
in basketball. This is used to cover short distances. Passing the ball to another player at chest
level.

Bounce Pass – This is one of the types of passing skill in Basketball. This is quite similar to
chest pass, but instead of pushing the ball directly towards the player's teammate, the ball is
thrown towards the floor letting it bounce before it reaches the receiver.

One-Hand Underhand Pass – This is one of the types of passing skill in Basketball. This pass
uses the throwing pattern described in softball.

Baseball Pass / Lance Pass – This is one of the types of passing skill in Basketball. It is a long
pass in which the passer throws the ball with one hand as if it were a baseball or a football. It
is infrequently used, mainly to set up last-second plays off a baseline inbounding situation

Overhead Pass – This is one of the types of passing skill in Basketball. It is used by snapping
the ball over the head, like a soccer throw-in. This pass is especially effective in helping to
initiate a fast break

Blind pass – This is one of the types of passing skill in Basketball. This term is also so-called
"the no-look pass". Which in fact is performed when a player looks in one direction but passes
the ball to his target in another direction. However, this can be risky and infrequently attempted,
but when done correctly, can confuse the defense. This pass has been popularized by players,
including Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and Jason Kidd.

Shooting – It is an essential skill in basketball for a team to gain points and win the game.
Consistency is the key when it comes to shooting. A type of skill to make a goal in basketball.

Set Shot – This is one of the types of Shots in Basketball. It is also the technique used for a
free throw. It is done by bending the knees and hips with the player's dominant foot slightly in
front.
Lay-Up – This is one of the types of Shots in Basketball. It is executed when the player is close
to the basket. Ideally, the ball bounces off the backboard to increase the chance of making a
score. It is a two-point attempt made by leaping from below, laying the ball up near the basket,
and using one hand to tip the ball over the rim and into the basket or to bank it off the backboard
and into the basket.

Jump Shot / Jumper – This is one of the types of Shots in Basketball. Where the player
extends his or her legs, jumps upward, and lands slightly in front. It is performed for shooting
at a farther distance. It is an attempt to score a basket by jumping, usually straight up, and in
mid-jump, propelling the ball in an arc into the basket.

Hook Shot – This is one of the types of Shots in Basketball. It is one of the most effective
inside moves, but it is also quite difficult to execute. This shot begins when the player puts his
body between the ball and the opponent.

Fade Away Shot – This is one of the types of Shots in Basketball. It is a variation on a set
jump shot in which the shooter attempts his shot leaning backward, creating the effect of
"fading away" from his defender. This makes it more difficult for the defender to contest the
shot

Slam Dunk – This is one of the types of Shots in Basketball. It is a type of basketball shot that
is performed when a player jumps in the air and manually powers the ball
downward through the basket with one or both hands over the rim. This is considered a normal
field
goal attempt.

Defending – This is one of the types of Shots in Basketball. This skill is used to prevent the
other team from scoring without committing a foul or violation.
