GROWTH

A CHRISTIAN MOVIE

The movie started the first scene of the family of Xinjing. Liang Xinjing is a devoted
Christian believer who enjoys a joyful marriage and family life with her husband and daughter
who are also Christian believers. But, in response to the Chinese Communist Party's irrational
campaign to persecute and imprison believers, her husband Youli begins to against with her
beliefs, fearing that she may be imprisoned, affecting his chances of promotion. He started to
be against with the gatherings when some members caught by the cops, he thinks that he will
be humiliated and disgrace him if his wife caught by the cops, but Liang have string faith and
went against her husband that resulted to violence. Even when her spouse uses violence
against her and ultimately demands a divorce, Liang Xinjing remains steadfast in her
commitment to God. Every time the cops undergo inspection and trespass the house of the
reported Almighty God believer, they hide the books and escape from the place to avoid the
cops, since they are evil and brutal. Those scenes are reflections that the film is about Christian
believers and the government who are against with it.
This film uses cinematic color that are dark that describes the cruelty of the government
and the police. Most of the shots of the scene are half body or medium shot and close shot that
shows clearly the emotions and characters portrayed by the actors. Using this technique, seeing
the reactions and emotions of Liang describes her character in the movie. She is soft, kind,
gentle, and have patient that he relays on her faith. She is in peace believing that Almighty God
has always in her side, protecting her. Close shots show her eyes full of passion and faith in
serving the Lord that she accepts this path even she lives or die. While her husband face shows
violence and evilness. His gestures also describe what type of character he was in this movie,
that he only takes after the wealth and having a family, but he doesn’t have love and faith for
his family and for Almighty God.
In this new era, we have different cultures, beliefs, and religion that makes us different
form other. Through this film, I learned that having the same beliefs keep us in peace and safe,
but having someone or large group who are against your belief is a challenge on defining who
you are and challenging how strong the faith that you have. On the last part of the movie, when
Liang’s daughter is sick, she questioned Almighty God why this is happening while she is giving
her best to serve the Lord, but this the help of the other believers she was enlighten. And this
their faith with Almighty God, they coped with the challenges and have a good life. I choose to
give more attention on spreading the words of Almighty God than to have that kind of man-
made law. Believing in God doesn’t harm anyone, it is faith that will help us to be given the
chance to live a life with Almighty God in heaven. Spreading the words of God also helps
someone to overcome challenges and motivated them in life. I choose to focus more on
spreading the words of the God because it doesn’t cause anything, but we can gain eternal life
with Him.
