4.2 Troubleshooting for Power Supply Problems

4.2.1 Power supply problems

When the system will not start up, or starts up but quickly turns OFF again, the problem lies in
the power supply and is occurring in either of the following locations.

Each line between units is connected by cables. If the problem is not solved by checking the
cable connection, refer to subsection 4.2.2.

(1) Signal lines: The system will not start up when the [ ] signal (POWER SW Signal)
is not transmitted; or, when the signal indicating completion of power
startup (Sensor Signal) is not transmitted, the system will not start up, or
it turns OFF again shortly after starting up.

(2) AC power lines: When the power line is disconnected, or the main breaker is turned OFF,
the system will not start up. When the protector is tripped, the power is
not supplied to the OEM device. When the setting of the voltage
selection switch is different from that of the mains power supply, the
system does not operate.

No. 2D730-538EN*D

4.2.2 Main breaker, protector, and voltage selection switch

The main breaker and the protectors are located as shown below.

<If the main breaker is on the side of the system>

35
No. 2D730-538EN*D

<If the main breaker is on the rear of the system>

(1) Main breaker: Moving the lever up supplies mains power to the power supply
unit. If the lever returns to the downward position shortly after
being pushed up, replace the power supply unit.

(2) Protector: Excessive AC power supply to the OEM device causes the
protector to trip. Power to the OEM device is interrupted.
Remove the OEM device and push the lever of the protector to
reset it.

(3) Voltage selection switch: Following the service manual (Fundamentals), select the
appropriate voltage. When 115 VAC is selected, connecting to
200 VAC and turning ON the main breaker will cause the
following unit to malfunction and the main breaker to operate.

The LED indicators show the power status. They are located as shown below. Use these LEDs
to check the operating status.

(1) Mechanism of the LED indicators

During system startup, the statuses of PSA-N, PSD, and the cooling fan are monitored,
and if an error is detected, the LED blinks to indicate a power problem. If the power is
normal, the indicator lights normally.

4.4 Troubleshooting for the Main Panel

When the three rotary encoder switches are pressed simultaneously and held down for 2 seconds,
the system enters the test mode in which the main panel can be started up individually.

In this test mode, every time a switch (other than the switches on the touch panel, the power ON
switch, the SET and NEXT switches, and the wheel switch) is pressed, the corresponding LED
goes through the following lighting sequence: unlit → green → orange.

This test mode is useful for identifying failures associated with the main panel.

4.8 Troubleshooting for Network Problems

(1) Troubleshooting for TCP/IP-related general problems with network connections

Network problems are often caused by inappropriate network settings on systems, resulting
in faulty connections with the network. When solving such problems, network commands
such as Ping, which are executed from the command prompt, are useful for verifying
connection with the network. (The command prompt can be entered using Command
Console in the [Utils] tab of the service menu (refer to subsection 3.4). This is also true for
the command prompts referred to the following descriptions.)

* DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is not supported.

(2) Obtaining the network environment information

To obtain the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway currently used by the system,
enter "start cmd" in the Command Console screen and press [Execute] to start the command
prompt. Type "IPconfig" at the command prompt and press . The Ethernet
adapter name is displayed together with the IP address, subnet mask, and the IP address of
the default gateway as the IP configuration information for the currently used OS. Note down
these settings.

Windows XX IP Configuration
Ethernet adapter xxxxxxx:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix. . . . . . . . . :

Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : 111.222.333.444.

The figure above shows an example of the screen displayed after "IPconfig" is executed with
a fixed IP. Confirm that the displayed settings are correct.

* IP address : 123.456.789.012
* Subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
* IP address of default gateway : 111.222.333.444

(3) Verification using Ping (system IP address)

Use the "Ping" command to verify that hardware operation is normal. Type "Ping IP address"
(type the system IP address for "IP address") and press .

If Ping is executed successfully, the reply shown below appears on the screen:

Pinging <IP address> with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from <IP address> : bytes=32 time<10 ms TTL=128

If Ping results in failure (or Ping fails for all IP addresses), the RM board may be faulty, the
OS may not recognize the network adapter correctly, or the network settings on the system
may be incorrect. Take appropriate actions such as replacing the RM board or verifying the
network settings.

(4) Verification using Ping (default gateway IP address)

After successful execution of Ping with the system IP address, the Ping command must be
executed for the default gateway IP address.

If Ping execution fails, whether or not the IP address of the default gateway is correct must
be verified. If the IP address is correct, the failure is likely to be due to a fault in the network
cable or network hub. Take appropriate actions such as replacing the cables used for
connection to the existing network hub, verifying that the hub lamp lights when the system is
connected to the hub, and checking the network cable by connecting it to other ports of the
hub or to a different hub.

(5) Verifying network routing

If the execution of Ping is successful for the default gateway and the system IP address, but
unsuccessful for other subnet IP addresses, there may be a fault in the router configuration
for network connection.

For tracing a route, type "TRacert IP address" (type the target IP address for route tracing),
and press .

If the network is operating correctly, the reply message shown below appears.
<###.###.###.###> shows the IP address of each router.

2 50 ms 50 ms 51 ms <###.###.###.###>
3 <###.###.###.###> reports: Destination net unreachable

(6) Verification of name resolution on the network

If connection to the IP address of another system is not possible despite successful Ping
execution, enter "IPconfig/all" to check whether all the displayed servers have replied to the
Pings. If Ping fails for an IP address, confirm the network settings of the system and check
the correct IP addresses of the servers with the network administrator. If Ping is executed
successfully for all the IP addresses, a name resolution problem is likely. Confirm the
network environment settings, including the host name of the system (refer to subsection
3.3.3).

4.9 DVD Drive Troubleshooting

If the DVD drive cannot be accessed from the system software or the DVD drive does not spin up
when the media is inserted, the DVD drive may be defective.

(1) If a DVD cable is not connected properly

• On the DVD drive : Confirm that the connection cable is connected securely.
• On the ATX-UNIT : Confirm that the power cable (J405) is connected securely.

(2) If the DVD drive is defective

Replace the DVD drive.

CAUTION: When the DVD drive cable is disconnected and then reconnected, clamp the cable
correctly.
