Education plays a vital role in elimination of social inequalities.


Lets see how education eliminates social inequalities

What is social inequality?

Social inequality is an area within sociology that focuses on the


distribution of goods and burdens in society
Goods include income, education, employment or parental level.
Burden include abuse, criminality, unemployment and
marginalisation.
Why social inequality is a problem?

Inequality is bad for society as it goes along with social


bonds between people which in turn makes health
and social problem more likely. At the same time
richer country have less social inequalities.
Nature of social inequality

 Difference in income ie) rich and poor


 Gender
 Ethnicity
 Disabilities and Health issues
Age ie) children, young people, middle aged,
pensioners etc.
Causes

Lack of Education
Homelessness
Social class
Unemployment
Inheritance
Family influence etc
Consequences

 Living in poverty
 Those who are born into poverty often find it very
different to escape from it.
 There are clear link between poverty and poor
health, crime and low education levels
Role of Education to Eliminate Social Inequalities

o Education is the basis for a fullfilling life.


o Education mould boys into men and girls into
responsible hardworking women.
o The importance of such an educated informed
society would help to develop a nation that is
working as one for economic development of entire
society.
o The educational process is one of increasing group
and community knowledge about social problems
and possible actions regarding them.
o Education involves obtaining unity of thinking among
a given group, working out plans for action on a
democratic basis.
o It is important to keep in mind that not only the facts
and knowledge through education is important , but
also the feelings of the people is more vital.
o Education enables an individual to acquire
information.
o Educational programmes are organized to attract the
people to equip themselves.
o Education gives information and knowledge in basic
and different aspects of living

used in the process of elimination of inequalities

• There is no doubt that some measures of


equality is necessary and actually desirable.
• The resolution to the problem of widening
social inequality lies in expanding the field of
educational opportunities.
• The right to education is universal and does not
allow for any form of exclusion or discrimination.
• Thus education plays a vital role in helping a
country improve its economic, social equality and
social quality of life.
