Project LDR (Long Distance Reading)
Problem Statement
Living in the new normal has a very big difference on what the people practice. The
pandemic brought by the virus has affected the lives of many thus, every government sector
including the Department of Education find ways on how people are able to cope in this new
setting. As teachers, we are expected to look for ways and means on how to deliver good
quality education to the students regardless of the learning modality the school is into. Since
minors are prohibited on going outside of their own homes, face-to-face classes seemed to be
impossible especially for younger ones. Consequently, teachers are not able to cognize the real
status of their pupils’ reading ability. Hence, distance should never be a hindrance in pupils’
learning. Assessing the student’s reading ability is crucial in this kind of situation we are in
and so Project LDR is created. Instilling in their minds the importance of reading. Through
this reading program, the school wishes to develop reading competence in all students with
the help and assistance coming from their parents or other household members who have the
capability to influence their children to read.
Students will be given one story every week to read. Their parents will monitor their
reading by putting marks on the wrong words they read and have to correct it. At the end of
the week, the child should be able to read the story correctly.
This project intends to hone the reading skills of Grades 1, 2 and 3 pupils in this new
normal education setting.
It aims to promote self-driven learning through the assistance of their household
member.
