Background and Purpose

Since we are catering Multi-Grade schools, we observed the way they converse to each other. They
talk well but when they talk to elder people, they talk “awan as-asin na” which seems not showing respect to
others especially for elders. It was observed that this is their practice. They always say that those people in the
highlands are better in behavior than those who are in the lowlands but in the way they talk, they talk without
courteous expressions. They are good within but then they cannot express courteous expressions.

It is really hard for us to guide the learners in this time of pandemic unlike the old normal that we can
immediately correct them on how they converse with each other especially to the older ones. Face to face
classes is not allowed that is why we cannot guide them on how they converse with each other. Limited group of
people they talk to is one of the factor why the courteous expressions they supposed to have is now gradually
diminishing.

This school reading program project SANA OL was crafted due to the following reasons:
1. To inculcate learners’ proper etiquette in oral communication,
2. To provide an avenue for practice in using courteous expressions in communicating,
3. To provide reading materials that will improve the oral communication skills of the learners

This school reading program was crafted to improve the oral communication skill of learners in Basig and
Badang Elementary Schools. For the learners to practice and use courteous expressions in their
everyday lives.

Goals:
1. To improve oral communication skills of all learners in Badang and Basig Elementary Schools
Objectives:

1. To inculcate learners’ proper etiquette in oral communication

2. To provide an avenue for practice in using courteous expressions in communicating
