MATERIALS :
Yarn used : OMBRÉ by ARTFIL (Fingering weight, 100% Merino wool) : 1 skein (100g/354m/387yds)
Needles US 7 (4,5 mm)
Tapestry needle to weaving.
MEASUREMENTS : 55'' long (= 140 cm) and 20'' wide (= 50 cm), after blocking.
STITCHES USED :
STOCKINETTE STITCH : *knit 1 row, purl 1 row*, repeat from * to *.
GARTER STITCH : knit all rows.
LACE STITCH : (multiple of 15 stitches, but only in the first row) : see chart or text.

GAUGE : Not crucial.
22 stitches and 29 rows = 4'' (= 10 cm), in stockinette stitch, with needles US 7.
After blocking, 14 stitches and 28 rows = 4'' (= 10 cm), in stockinette stitch, with needles US 7.

K2TOG = Pick your right needle through the front loop of the
next 2 stitches and knit them together.
SSK = slip next 2 stitches knitwise, one at a time, then knit
together
S2KP = SL2TOG kwise, K1, P2SSO : slip 2 together
knitwise, knit 1, pass the 2 slipped stitches over.
PATTERN :
GARTER TAB CAST ON :
Cast on 2 stitches and knit 7 rows in garter stitch. After the
7th row, without turning work, pick up and knit 3 stitches (1 in
each garter ridge), then 2 more from cast on edge (= 7
stitches).
SET UP :
Row 1 : k2, yo, (k1, yo) 3 times, k2.
Row 2 : k2, p7, k2 (= 11 stitches).
STOCKINETTE STITCH SECTION :

Row 1 : k2, yo, k1, yo, knit to last 3 stitches, yo, k1, yo, k2 (4 stitches increased).
Row 2 : k2, purl to last 2 stitches, k2.
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until there are 111 stitches on the needles.
On the last wrong side row before lace, make 2 increases anywhere, as follow : knit the stitch from the
front loop then knit the same stitch from the back loop (= 113 stitches).

For the lace section, you have the choice between written intructions below, or the chart of page 5.

- the edge stitches aren't in the chart. So each RS row is made as follow : k2, yo, k1, yo, k1, continue by
following the chart, k1, yo, k1, yo, k2.
- the red lines show the pattern to repeat : repeat these stitches 7 times for rows 1 to 11, 8 times for
rows 13 to 25, 9 times for rows 27 to 39, 10 times for rows 41 to 53, 11 times for rows 55 to 63, and 12
times for row 65.
- the grey squares are used for making reading easier, there are no stitch.




FINISHING :
When you arrive at the last wrong side row of the chart, bind off all stitches very loosely as follow : p2,
*insert left needle into the front of both stitches (again leaving the right needle in position), and p2tog,
p1*, repeat from * to * until all stitches are bound off.
Your shawl is finished !

The garter tab cast on tends to form a small hump at the beginning of the shawl, but don't worry, it will
disappear with blocking. Well wet your shawl with cold water. Block it with pins : first at garter tab cast
on level and garter stitch edge, then form the points at the other side (see photo below).
You want a bigger shawl ? Just make more rows in the stockinette stitch section, before the lace :
+ 1 pattern : continue in stockinette stitch until you have 127 stitches on the needles. When you arrive
at the last wrong side row before the lace, make 1 increase anywhere (= 128 stitches). Repeat the chart
pattern 8 times at the beginning (8 x 15 = 120 + 8 edge stitches = 128 stitches).
+ 2 patterns : continue in stockinette stitch until you have 143 stitches on the needles. Repeat the
chart pattern 9 times at the beginning (9 x 15 = 135 + 8 edge stitches = 143 stitches).
