Despite planning for issues, I may encounter during my research phase, I still managed to fall a little

PEEKABOO
EXT: SARAH’S STUDY – EVENING

On a late Tuesday evening, a woman is seen sitting in her office working tirelessly. On her
desk, sits a photo of her hugging her son alongside a small bouquet of flowers. As it gets
later, her computer clock turns to 12 am. Finishing off, she huffs tirelessly turning of her
computer before walking to her kitchen to make herself a hot drink. To wind down, she sits
on the sofa, turns the TV on and begins to watch crappy late-night gameshow viewings.

SHOT FROM OUTSIDE, TV IS HEARD BUT MUFFLED

As she watches, she begins to doze off.

CAMERA SHOWS HER FALLING ASLEEP CLOSE UP

WIDE SHOT FOR MATCH CUT

WITH A MATCH CUT TECHNIQUE – IT IS THE MORNING SHES SAT CENTRE ON

THE SOFA AND SHOT

Her child runs into the room with his back turned, shaking her arm waking her up as its
morning.

CHILD:
Mum can we play hide and seek?

At this point, only the back of Oscars head is shown and his face is left unknown to the
audience.

MOTHER (In a confused state and looking around):

What? (Looking at her watch) Sorry I must have fallen asleep down here yesterday. What did
you say darling?

CHILD (impatiently):
Can we play hide and seek?

MOTHER:
Aren’t you a bit old for that now?

CHILD:
Mummmmm!

MOTHER:
Yes, hold on dear let me wake myself.

She walks to the kitchen, to get herself a glass of water. The camera follows from above her
shoulder. Her child follows closely behind, eager to play hide and seek.

MOTHER:
Right, im going to count to 10 now. (She covers her hands over her eyes – close up shot of
this as she counts to 10)

Switching to a wide shot, she takes her hands from her eyes. The house is completely silent.
She turns looking around.

MOTHER:
I’m coming, you better be well hidden
Peekaboo: Production Booklet
She continuous to walk around the house looking in each cupboard, behind every sofa. Lots
of the shots show her peeking in the cupboard from within the cupboard. Getting faster and
faster she begins searching vigorously.

MOTHER:
I can smell you. Ah hah. (looking in the final cupboard, she’s confident that she found him)

He is not there. She turns looking around the room with a worried look upon her face

Mother:
Oscar?

There is a certain eerie silence within the house, as if she’s been alone all along.
As she walks around the house, items of the house are in odd places, and some are missing.
There is an strange feeling that something is not right. Getting increasingly worried she
shouts out to her child, but there is no answer.

Mother:
Oscar? Where are you. You win I can’t find you.

Mother:
Oscarrrr?????

Running through her corridors manically, on the mirror are the words written. “Lost forever”
Mother:
Oscar this is not funny. Wherever you are, this isn’t fun anymore.

AS SHE SHOUTS, THE CAMERA BEGINS GETTING CLOSER AND CLOSER TO HER
WORRIED EYES. SUDDENLY USING MATCH CUT SHOT, SHE WAKES UP AND
THE CAMERA ZOOMS BACK OUT TO HER WAKING.

When she wakes, we see her eyes light up immediately. A look of distress still lies on her
face, as she turns looking beside her at a photo of her and her child.

AS WE SEE A SHOT OF THE FRAMED PHOTO, THE CREDITS BEGIN TO ROLL IN

OVER IT.
