Proposal

Title of production: Feel

In this short film, I want to create a production spreading a positive message to children with
sensory defects, showing that they are the same as everyone else and can amount to the same
things. In this production, I will be following the day and life of a go-happy blind child, and
his loving mother. The boy follows his passion for music and nature, using his touch to feel
his way through life. I want to showcase my main character enjoying the small things in life,
as well as common child activities to further reinforce the notion to my audience that he is no
different to those watching.

As our brief was to create a short 5-10-minute film with no dialogue, this instantly gave me
the thought to base my production around a child with a sensory defect. By doing this, it will
immediately help my production have a solid story, without dialogue being the main focus.
As of this, my main character is blind and his ability to see through his touch will be the main
focus. In addition, as all my previous productions have been aimed towards an older target
audience, I want to broaden my range of skills by creating a children’s production for a
change.

In this unit, I have decided to create a production for those within the ages of 5-12. To begin
with, we were given the option to also create a production for 20-40-year olds, however due
to my brief I felt a simple concept would be more appropriate. As children’s shows are
commonly very simple this reinforces my thoughts that producing a production for 5-12-year-
old seems far more suitable. In addition, as my overall aim is to spread a positive message
about children with sensory defects, it made far more sense to create it for those affected
which in this case are children.

When researching for my production, I found that a common feature of children’s

productions is a positive outlook. As children thrive if they’re happy, it is important to reflect
this emotion in productions to guide the child in how they should feel when watching. In
general, in order to keep a child’s concentration, they have to be having fun, and therefore by
guiding their emotions this will enable me to be able to keep their focus on the production.

The production will be uploaded YouTube, as this will be the best place based on my target
audience. As my audience will be young, by using YouTube this will give me the best chance
to get my production out to those aimed for as it is a fairly new platform. It being a new
platform, means that its average age of users is of a younger generation. But in addition,
YouTube is also free and easily accessible meaning that I will be able to easily get it out to a
wide range of people.

My final deadline for both my productions is the 14th of December 2021.
