2. Lessons Learned

• Check hopper arrangement for chemical mixing leading to lumping of chemical.

• Pre-check cement delivery line to avoid shutdown due to poor bulk delivery
• Keep the annulus open to visually see the circulation

• Check the mix fluid delivery to the cementing unit

• Have chemicals backup if in case mix fluid doesn’t qualify for the job (may due to contamination from different
tanks / settlement)

• Ensure no contamination between the tanks in which mix fluid is being prepared

• Check proper agitation and circulation system for the tanks

• Recalculate the mud pump strokes for the displacement volumes on the site prior to job and know the mud
pump efficiency

• Check the hose of Air supply to the silos is dry prior to job

• The mix fluid transfer pumps are in good condition and no chokes exist in their strainers

• Pump volumetrically measuring the mix fluid volume in tanks if pumps take air

• The wash up water spill on well site- Designated dump area to be checked with the rig manager

KEY ASSUMPTIONS

1. As per the caliper data, considered average hole size of 13.0” from 2100m to 3050m, average hole size
of 13.7” from 3050 m to 3347m
2. 13.6ppg Lead slurry volume is calculated (280 US BBLS) will be pumped as agreed with client and 15.8ppg Tail
Slurry volume is calculated (80 US BBLS) will be pumped as agreed with client.
3. BHT provided as per OH logging is 65°C, calculated iCem BHCT is 50°C.
4. Pore density at TD 2202.5m is assumed to be 8.5 ppg. The Fracture density is assumed 15 ppg at TD. Data of
Pore pressure & Frac Pressure is not available for this well.
5. Mud weight used is 9.5 ppg as provided by Client - Oil India Limited.
6. The design simulations for the fresh mud of 9.5 ppg are YP< 10 lbf / 100ft2 & PV< 15Cp and the same is
recommended to the OIL chemist.

PRE-CEMENTING CONSIDERATIONS

1. Mud should be conditioned during pre-job circulation to bring down rheology as low as possible to enhance mud
removal.
2. Ensure that the mixing tanks are completely clean before mixing chemicals to avoid contamination.
3. Ensure mix water salinity is less than the 500ppm.
4. Ensure that the dry bulk supply lines from silo to surge tank are clean and vented thoroughly by blowing air
through this line well in advance of cement job.
5. Before pressurizing silos for the cement job, close discharge and fill lines, open vent line, and pump air through
the silo for at least 10 minutes to fluff the cement.
6. All volumes and pump rates should be counter checked at the rig site between company-man and the cementer
according to the casing tally and well conditions.
7. Double check the mud pumps and cement unit pumps efficiency during circulation prior to cement job.
8. Measure rheology and density of returned mud after circulation prior to cement job.
9. Collect samples of mix water used for the job, minimum 3 gal of mix water (before mixing chemicals) and
minimum 3 gal of mix fluid (after chemical mixing). Send these samples to the lab for post job analysis/testing if
necessary.
10. Add chemicals only after casing reaches bottom and circulation has been established. Spacer can be prepared
while casing lowering.
11. Check the hopper system prior to mixing chemicals. Discuss the contingency plan prior to the job with customer
if the hopper chokes during mixing.

4.7 Job Summary at Reservoir Zone
5. JOB EXECUTION
5.1 Job Procedure

1. Circulate well at least two complete cycle at the pump rate confirmed with company man to condition the mud
before the cementation job. Report the pump rates and circulation pressure to base.
2. Conduct a pre job safety meeting on the rig floor. All the personnel involved in the job should be present, and
clear responsibilities need to be assigned. Pump rates and pressures expected should be confirmed among all
personnel. Discuss emergency procedures and contingency plan.
3. Test rig line upto OIL pressure test policies and Bleed off pressure
4. OIL representative to shear the float activation ball seat from rig pump and confirm the pressure drop with
circulation on the flow line

5. Prime up cementing unit and flush the cementing HP line

6. Low pressure test surface lines to 500 psi for 5 minutes. High pressure test lines up to 2500 psi for 15mins and
bleed off.

7. Halliburton crew to mix retarder in both Lead & Tail mix fluids – Provide sufficient time for proper mixing.
8. Pump 200 US bbls of 9.5 ppg (71 pcf) Fresh Mud @ 12-15 bpm from Rig pumps.
9. Pump 50 US bbls of Preflush – SAPP Water @5-6bpm from rig pumps
10. Pump 65 US bbls of 11.5 ppg (86 pcf) spacer @5-6bpm from Rig pumps.
11. Mix and Pump 280 US BBls (FLY MIX) of 13.6ppg (102 pcf) Lead Cement Slurry (confirmed with OIL
representative) @4-6 bpm from Cementing Unit.
12. Pump 80 US BBls (FLY Mixed) of 15.8ppg (118 pcf) Tail Cement Slurry (Confirmed with OIL
representative) @3-5bpm from Cementing Unit.
13. Take samples of cement slurry during the job.
14. Flush the cementing line before proceeding for displacement. Ensure master lo-torc on cement head is
closed before flushing.
15. Displacement 9.5 ppg to be done by the Rig pumps with drilling mud. Displacement schedule is as
under:
a. 700 US BBls at 15 bpm
b. 85 US BBls at 8 bpm
d. 13.0 US BBls at 2 bpm

TOTAL DISPLACEMENT VOLUME: ~798 US BBls.

16. Max. ECD during the first stage job at Casing Shoe: 11.8 ppg. Plug Landing Pressure of shut off plug is 1781 psi.
Plug bumping to be confirmed. The differential pressure when the fluids are static is 1044 psi.

17. Bleed-off the pressure on the cementing unit. If the BPV does not hold pump back the excess returned
volume. Apply 500 psi excess surface pressure on the plug and close the cement head manifold valves &
the master valve and WOC Until the lead slurry achieves 500psi compressive strength as per the lab
report.
OIL INDIA LIMITED | TBP | v1.0
9.625” Casing Cement Program

18. If the BPV of the floats hold the backflow then bleed-off the line pressure completely and open the
cement head cap.

6. Contingency Plans

1. While displacing by rig pumps, valve should be open to record pressure at cement unit to note any kind of
pressure shoots ups.
2. If plug does not bump, it is recommended that the maximum volume to be pumped further is half shoe track
volume only ~2.88 US bbl. Any volume pumped above Displacement volume + Half shoe track volume need to be
consulted with OIL company man/Rig in-charge/OIL base representative.
3. Pressure up 500 psi above final displacement pressure on the plug. If the casing has to be tested, it should be
tested at this point after the plug bump.

4. Returns to be taken in the displacement tank of cementing unit; Return volume to be Checked and confirmed by
the company man/client representative in the presence of cementing operator.

5. If the float is not holding, pump back the returned volume and bleed it off back. Perform this 2-3 times until the
debris get cleaned up from the floats. If the flow back volume keep continuing to return, pump back the returned
volume with excess 500psi on the plug and then close the cement head valves and WOC. Minimum WOC time is
the time to reach compressive strength of 500psi as per the lab report for the lead slurry. Recommended WOC
for the lead slurry is 8 hours from the time when the Lead slurry gets placed.

6. Have sufficient De-foamer as backup during mixing chemicals or cement

Recommendations

1. Bulk delivery - During the switching to next silo after the completion of the cement from first silo, the dead
volume of the first silo should not be pumped. This will give less bulk delivery and more Air and may result in
density variation.

2. The mix fluid supply should be consistent to the cement unit, a contingency plan to deliver the mix fluid to
the cement unit should also be in place if the delivery is improper. Have back up ‘C’ pump ready to deliver the
mix fluid in good rate.

3. To improve the Rheological Hierarchy of the spacer for better mud removal, it is recommended to improve
spacer design with right concentration of ‘Tuned Spacer III’. 10min minimum spacer contact time should be
maintained or 1000ft of spacer column in the OH annulus during pumping.

4. Rig pump stroke length and efficiency to be checked and confirmed with the mud pump operator and/or
company man before the job. During the entire job, rig crew will be monitoring the return volume coming out
of the hole.
