What I Learned
Based on the lessons discussed, answer each question in three or more sentences.
Write your answer on your answer inside the box. (5 points each)

1. Why do we have to write the background of the study?

The background of the study should be outlined to give context to the
material covered in the report. As a result, research stories draw readers into
your research topic and help them understand why it's important. The
research background usually contains an overview of existing literature in
your field of study that leads to your topic. After examining the contributions
of other scholars in this field, we can highlight the understanding and
discipline gaps not covered in these studies. Then you can explain how your
research fills these gaps and increases the body of knowledge on the topic.

What Can I Do

Directions: Accomplish the tasks below by following the instructions carefully. Base your
answers on your chosen research problem in the previous module. Write your answers on
the space provided.

A. Background of the Study

Directions: Outline your background of the study by answering the following
question below. Answer in a complete sentence.

laboratory classes, and direct contact with teachers and other students. Being
an exceptional and novel situation, the potential impact of the health crisis and
the prolonged lockdown on students' academic development and emotional
state is still unknown.
Recent work has identified some variables that intervene in the online
education process, such as the correct adaptation of teaching to the online
format, including classes, assessment methods, and teacher support (Alnusairat
et al., 2020; Linh & Trang, 2020); the quality of the classes received (Al-Balas et
al., 2020; Amir et al., 2020); the conditions of students' workspace (Gelles et
al., 2020; Son et al., 2020); and the connection with other students and
teachers (Elmer et al., 2020; Radu et al., 2020). However, there is a knowledge
gap in how these variables are related to students' academic development and
whether having been in a prolonged lockdown might have affected them.
Furthermore, educational and psychological research has raised concerns about
students' mental health as they have had to suddenly switch to online learning
systems and follow classes under lockdown restrictions. Investigations pointed
out that students have experienced an increase in stress, anxiety, and
depression (Aslan et al., 2020; Odriozola-Gonzá lez et al., 2020; Saravanan et
al., 2020; Son et al., 2020), and have felt some negative feelings intensified, such
as fear, wory, or boredom (Aristovnik et al., 2020; Son et al., 2020). Several

In the Philippines, the pandemic’s impact on Filipino students’ mental health
in terms of stress, depression, anxiety and impact of the event itself, based on
a study by the Philippine One Health University Network and the Southeast
Asian One Health University Network released in August 2021, showed that
National Capital Region students experienced high levels of stress with 19
percent, 22 percent admitted feeling depressive symptoms, 36 percent
admitted to anxiety, and close to 26 percent admitted to having a terrible
time coping with the pandemic’s impact.

learning, and students were forced to continue their study. With this being
said, studies shows that many students decided to stop during this pandemic,
many committed suicides, and many were struggling for coping to the online
learning and coping for their mental health. The researcher aims to create a
healthy environment for the student during the COVID-19 pandemic, this is
through identifying the factors affecting to their mental health, as students
and as a person. The researcher intends to assess the students’ mental status
during this time of the pandemic.
B. Significance of the Study

C. Scope and Delimitation
Directions: Answer the following questions below to set the parameters of your study.
Write your answers on the space provided.

1. What is the topic of your study and the variables to be included?

- The researchers were interested in the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on
students' mental health, as well as the factors that affected students' mental health
during the pandemic.

2. Why should your study be conducted? State the objective?

- The purpose of the study was to learn about the potential problems that people would face
in the event of a pandemic. Exploring and conceptualizing human experiences throughout
the early months of covid and during the life of a pandemic, creating a healthy atmosphere
for students, and addressing and resolving the student's mental health situation are all
goals. A survey questionnaire will be supplied to the selected respondents in order to
analyze their current situation.

3. Where will your study be conducted? State the locale.

- This study started its assessment to the grade 12 STEM students in Samar National School
in Catbalogan City, Samar.

4. When will your study be conducted? State the time frame.

- The study was be conducted around the months of February- April 2022 only.

5. How will your study be conducted? State the research design, instrument and
methodology.
- This study is to assess and evaluate the real-life experience of the students who will serve
to be the respondents. The study will be a qualitative narrative study to know the status of
the students mental health. The respondents were asked questions about their conditions,
their coping mechanisms, and their experiences before and during the pandemic. Interview
was used as a research instrument to gather data, especially unanswered items in the
survey.
