Competency/ Uses a compass and straightedge to bisect line segments and angles Code: M7GE-IIId-e-1
ies: and construct perpendiculars and parallels.
Key Compass is a drawing instrument used to draw circle and arc. It has two legs, one with a point
Concepts/ and the other with a pencil or lead.
Understandin
gs to be Straightedge is simply a guide for the pencil when drawing straight lines. The most commonly
Developed: used straightedge is the ruler.
Bisector is a straight line that divides a line segment and an angle into two equal parts.
1. Objectives
Knowledge Cite the steps in bisecting line segments and angles.
Skills Bisect line segment and angles.
Attitudes Display alertness in following instruction.
Values Develop fairness in judging others.

4. Procedures (indicate the steps you will undertake to teach the lesson and indicate the no. of minutes
each
step will consume)
Preparation 1. Prayer
10 minutes 2. Attendance and Physical Arrangement Check
ACTIVITY:
1. Review: Angles and Line Segment
2. The students will be grouped into five. Each will be given pieces of paper containing a
segment (Name as line segment FP) and an angle (Name as angle B).
3. Let the students follow the following instruction.
1. Get the paper containing the line segment.
2. Fold the paper so that one endpoint of the line segment touches the other
endpoint.
3. Construct a line segment on the folded part.
4. Name the line segment as ED. Let it set aside for a moment.
5. Get the paper containing the angle.
6. Fold the paper so that the ray of the angle B overlap the other ray.
7. Construct a ray on the folded part. Name it as ray GB.
8. Name the angles as angle 1 and angle 2.
4. Ask the students:
What did the segment ED do to segment FP? (It divides the line segment FP
into two equal parts.)
What did the ray GB do to angle B? (It divides the angle B into two equal
parts)
6. Present a video clip on how to bisect an angle. Let the student bisect the line segment
given to them a while ago
(Refer to the attachment – videos/Geometry – Constructions 5 – Angle Bisector).
7. Present their work to their class. Choose randomly.
8. Ask the students:
What are the steps in bisecting a line segment?
What are the steps in bisecting angle?
