Take it from a very young businessperson, making the right decisions at the right moment can make or

break a business.

Being self-employed can be the dream for a lot of people, but as an entrepreneur with a nascent business a
lot of the decisions you make can be quite gut-driven and not data driven. This was my biggest pet peeve
and eventually became my biggest motivation to pursue a career in Business Analytics. The fact that drives
me the most into pursuing this degree is that hard data and pattern identification can practically answer
almost every business question of what is and what can be. The future of decision making revolves around
Data and I'm here for it.

If I reflect on it, my inquisitive bent mind coupled with a constant need for enquiry and problem solving have
been the factors that have contributed to my growth so far and now are steering my career in the direction of
analytics. A chance to learn at your university will give me a once in a lifetime opportunity to fully grasp the
vast ever-changing world of business analytics and prepare me for making complex decisions data driven
decisions with an analytical framework both professionally and personally.

Majoring in Hospitality and Hotel Administration gave me the opportunity to lay down solid personality
groundwork and appreciate the importance of intelligent working. As I marinated into the intricacies of hotel
operations, I quickly realised that I fit into the business aspect of things more.

Exploring the areas of Revenue, Brand Management, Sales and Marketing during my Internship at Oberoi
Hotels early into my career gave me a rare opportunity to nurture my interest in business and realise my full
potential.

With the ardour to hone and refine my passion for business I bagged the role of Management Trainee for
Taj Hotels and Resorts being the only one selected out of a cohort of 300+ students. Juggling between
multiple back-end departments of the hotel in a very short span of time, I developed sound soft and hard
skills and embraced the need for smart decision making.

Using the skills, I developed working in hotels and restaurants, I built and managed a business from the
ground up. My perpetual need for excellence and perfection helped me achieve sales of roughly INR
20,00,000 per annum and a profit margin of almost 72% within 2 years. Being restless in my pursuit to make
better management decisions led me to realise the gaps that existed in my business due to a dearth of data
and an analytical framework.
Nurturing my never-ending curiosity I enrolled and completed multiple online certifications including a
Business Analytics Specialisation from University of Pennsylvania, Project Management Certification by
Google and SQL for Data Analytics by University of California, Davis.

At present, I am pursuing an internship with Singer India Ltd under their Budget and Analysis segment,
aimed at optimising the company's processes by identifying Non-Value Added tasks and eliminating them.
My role also focuses on enabling strategic planning for the company to increase sales of sewing machines
to the rural population of India. This internship and my openness towards trying new things is helping me to
understand appreciate the intricacies and beauty of data knowledge.

My diverse experience in the field of business equipped me with the necessary skills to handle projects of
different complexities right from project initiation to project landing, instilled in me the essence of strategic
planning and time management and taught me volumes about making and maintaining client relations

Having a very management-oriented profile which doesn’t involve any backend data work motivates me to
delve into data and upgrade my knowledge base with this degree. I want to further broaden my learning
horizons and hone my potential in collecting and analysing data to identify trends, patterns and root causes.

At the university, I aim to absorb as much knowledge as possible from the teachers and aim for academic
and non-academic excellence. My biggest asset is my ability to self-learn and devote patience and time to
upgrade my knowledge base. While I may not be the poster child applicant for a Business Analytics
program, my penchant to base management decisions on concrete numbers and visual facts makes me the
most unique candidate.
