Water Shortage
I. Background of the Issue

Water is a part of our history. Our future depends on water. Many have compared the issue of
water shortage to the present economic battle over petroleum. This is not the situation with water, because
we are not dealing with minor annoyances (however spectacular they may be), but rather with the matter
of life itself. Another major contributor to water scarcity is global warming. Water from rivers and lakes
evaporates more quickly as the average air temperature rises, perhaps contributing to the drying up of
water bodies. As a result, individuals who rely on such water bodies for drinking water suffer greatly
from the effects of global warming, which has an impact on local water supplies.

Furthermore, Groundwater pollution can also be caused by soil pollution or illegal dumping, as harmful
substances are washed into the groundwater during rainfall. Locals who rely on clean groundwater face
severe water scarcity if an alternative water supply is not available.

The problem of distribution has been studied from practically every perspective, but no
economically viable solution has been discovered. Desalination of ocean water is possible with current
technology, but it is only feasible in wealthy coastal areas. The expense of turning seawater to drinkable
water is frequently higher than that of other brute force approaches, such as transporting clean water in
ships or huge plastic bags from water-rich areas (Gleick, 2001). Keeping this in mind, the remaining
water becomes a finite and important resource that must be handled wisely in order for humanity's future
to be sustained.Iligan City is divided into 44 barangays, one of which being Barangay Tubod (33,243 total
population). Iligan is a rapidly growing city in Lanao del Norte, but in addition to being one of the
wealthiest cities in the province, it is also experiencing water shortages, with the most impacted areas
being Barangay Merila II, Barangay Tipanoy, and Barangay Tubod.

II. Objectives
1. To know if the reasons of water shortage in Barangay Tubod is the economic development of
Iligan City.
2. Demonstrate the viability of circular nature-based solutions for delivering fresh water from
unconventional water sources.
3. Utilization of unconventional water resources in agriculture and for home use to efficiently deal
with the demand side of unsustainable water consumption.
4. To know if the residents of Barangay Tubod have enough knowledge about the importance of
water in life.
5. To know and to inform the residents in Barangay Tubod about the effects of water shortage .

III. Action Resolution

Rainwater collection and recycled wastewater help to alleviate shortages and relieve strain
on groundwater and other natural water sources of water. A well-known method of preventing
water shortage is groundwater recharge, which permits water to move from surface to
groundwater. Better sewage treatment and pollution control. Water gets contaminated and
hazardous to drink without sufficient cleanliness. As a result, controlling pollution, as well as
measuring and monitoring water quality, are critical. Furthermore, strengthening sewage
systems in certain places is another strategy to avoid a worsening of water scarcity.
