Good day to all of you!

May I ask you, on the scale of 1-10, how much are you aware about what is
happening in our world right now? If you are really sure that you are aware of these
social, political, climate, and other issues, then maybe for you it is a 10 but if not, then
maybe it is a 3. If that’s the case, then I suggest you browse resources that would
enhance your knowledge regarding the current issues the world is facing right now. On
of the may resources we could get knowledge from is the internet.
As we all know, there are many things we could do and learn in the internet that
we could not really find somewhere else. We could also get additional knowledge from
books but the internet, for us, is way more convenient, at just one click, everything will
fall into place and we could grab these ideas and knowledge. Earlier, I have asked you
how aware are you about the issues the world is facing right now but now, I want to ask
how sure are you that what you see or read on the internet is the right information for
you. How sure are you? Is this information a false information or the truth? Is this
information threatening or not?

For us to be responsible internet users, we must do the right things we should do

when getting information from the internet – if the information is reliable or not.
According to Angel Brecht (2020), in an article titled, How to Identify Reliable
Information from Stevenson University Online, Brecht said that for the information to be
reliable it must come from a reliable source and in order to say that the source is
reliable, there are four things we must consider.

First, authority, who is the author? What are their credentials? Do they have
knowledgeable experience in the field they are writing about? What is their reputation?
Second, accuracy, compare the author’s information to that which you already know is
reliable. Are there proper citations? Is the information biased? If so, does it affect
research conclusions. Third, coverage, is the information relevant to your topic and
does it meet your needs? Consider what you need such as statistics, charts, and
graphs. Fourth, currency, is your topic constantly evolving? Topics in technology and
medical innovation require sources that are up to date.

The importance of knowing if the source of information is reliable is having the

right knowledge, the trustworthiness and reputation on yourself. Being able to have a
reliable information is intellectually healthy. It is like feeding your mind with the right
food.
