I would like to start this short essay by introducing my name. I am Saskia Putri Sukmana.

I am 19 years old and a freshman from the international undergraduate program at the University
of Indonesia majoring in Economics. I am interested in everything related to economics, law,
politics, and socio-culture. That's one of the reasons why I ended up becoming an economics
student. Being an international student, gave me a lot of obstacles. I was forced to read, write,
listen and speak in English. At first I wanted to give up, but after 2nd semester I realized that my
English skills had improved a lot since becoming an international student.

I studied English since I was 5 years old. I really like English lessons from elementary to
high school. When I was in elementary school, I took an English course and was at A2 level.
However, my English skills stalled in high school because I didn't continue the course anymore.
When I was in high school, I joined an English debate club and entered several competitions.
Being a debater, really gave me a lot of experience when it comes to speaking and writing
arguments. My speaking, writing and listening skills have improved tremendously since joining
the English debate. After that, I took the TOEFL exam and managed to get into the international
program of the University of Indonesia. I am currently taking a course for the IELTS exam in
preparation for me to take a double degree program abroad.

I hope for this course is that I can improve my reading skills. I have a little difficulty
understanding academic texts in English. However, I have started to get used to it since
becoming an international student. Not only that, I hope I can write essays in English well and
correctly. Finally, I hope that I can complete this course as well as possible so that I can get an
A.
