A. PREPARATORY ACTIVITIES
Greetings
Ameen.
Before you all take a seat, may I request everybody to align your chairs and pick a piece of trash under
your chair. Observe social distancing. Wear your mask always. And keep sanitized. We have sanitation
kit beside the door of this room. If you feel something unusual, let us know. Okay? Thank you.
Checking of Assignment
Who among you here who haven’t pass their assignment yet?
You can. Just leave yours under my desk at the office. Okay?
Your welcome.
Who can give us a recap on our previous discussion? How about you Mr. Johary?
Very good, Mr. Johary. Did we achieve the learning objectives that we have on our previous lesson?
B. LESSON PROPER
Motivation
I want to congratulate everyone. We are now done with our 2 nd quarter lessons and today we will be
discussing new topic for this 3rd quarter. You all did well on our previous quarter and I am rooting for you
all on the succeeding quarters. May you all pass.
So, before we start our class discussion let us have a mind-stretching activity. This module shall focus on
quadrilaterals that are parallelograms. I will be showing a table that contains the statement which you
will be guessing. Tell me whether the statement is true or false. I will write T if it’s true and F if it’s false.
Then later on we are to revisit the table and we will respond to guesses by writhing R if you were right
and W if wrong under the third column. Are you ready?
My I was
STATEMENT guess is (R or W)
(T or F)
1. A quadrilateral is a
parallelogram if both
pairs of opposite
sides are parallel.
2. A quadrilateral is a
parallelogram if both
pairs of opposite
sides are parallel.
3. A quadrilateral is a
parallelogram if both
pairs of opposite
angles are
4. A quadrilateral is a
parallelogram if any
two consecutive
angles are
complementary.
5. A quadrilateral is a
parallelogram if
exactly one pair of
adjacent sides is
perpendicular
6. A quadrilateral is a
parallelogram if
one pair of opposite
sides are both
Alright. We already have answers on these statements and later on, we will get back to this table to see
if we were right or wrong. Now, let’s try another activity. I want each one of you to share to the class
what you have searched. Remember, I urged you last meeting to search for fun facts about
quadrilaterals. I will be giving points also in this activity.
Each one has only one chance to raise their answer. Just raise your hands and tell us your answer as I
call you. Ready?
And?
Okay, very good everyone. You all have share facts or trivia about quadrilaterals.
Discussion
It feels good when refreshing before the class with these kinds of activities. Right class?
Very good. Our lesson for today is about the conditions that make a quadrilateral parallelogram. But
before that let u read first the learning objectives that will serve us a guide to our discussion.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Given the several activities, by students should be able to:
Can everybody read the first condition written on the visual aid?
D C
Supposed ABCD is a quadrilateral. If the segment AD is congruent to segment BC. And side AB is
congruent to side DC. That is,
AD ≅ BC
AB ≅ DC
Then, it is a parallelogram. The mark with one line on the top figure mean that the side is congruent to
its opposite side. While the mark of two lines means that the side AD is congruent to its opposite side.
So, the mark indicate congruency.
So since we satisfy the condition. That means, the figure is a parallelogram. Let’s proceed with the next
condition.
D C
For instance, ABCD is a quadrilateral. If the angle A is congruent to angle C and angle B is congruent to
angle D. That is,
∠A ≅ ∠C
∠B ≅ ∠D
Then, we can say that it is a parallelogram. Going back to the figure, if we say that the ∠B is 75 ° then
the ∠D is also 75 ° . And if the ∠A is 105 ° then the ∠C is also 105 ° .
A B
105 75
75 105
D C
Since we satisfy the both pairs of opposite angles are congruent. It means that the quadrilateral is a
parallelogram. So, what is the next condition class?
E F
110 70
70 110
H G
So, we have a quadrilateral EFGH. How do we say that it is a parallelogram?
That’s correct. So, let’s see. We then add two consecutive angles. That is,
What else?
Okay. Since we satisfy the two consecutive angles are supplementary, then the quadrilateral is a
parallelogram.
What is the next condition?
Suppose we have the quadrilateral ABCD. If the diagonal AC or the diagonal BD divided the figure into
two equal parts, then the quadrilateral is a parallelogram.
A B
D C
For example, in diagonal AC, did it divided the diagonal BD into two equal parts? Yes. It was indicated on
the marks. The marks indicate the congruency. That is,
In diagonal AC,
AF ≅ FC
In diagonal BD
BF ≅ FD
So, it means they bisect each other. Because the one diagonal AC divided the diagonal BD into two equal
parts. Same goes to diagonal BD that divide the diagonal AC into two equal parts.
D C
A B
Let’s see if it will form congruent triangles. If the diagonal divides the quadrilateral into two triangles,
then it is a parallelogram. So the diagonal AC divides the quadrilateral into two congruent triangles
which are ∆ CDA and ∆ ABC which are congruent to each other. That is,
In diagonal AC,
∆ CDA ≅ ∆ABC
And the diagonal BD divides the quadrilateral into two congruent triangles also. That is,
In diagonal BD,
∆ CDB ≅ ∆ABD
Since we satisfy the condition, that says that the quadrilateral is a parallelogram. Did you understand
class?
Application
Shall we apply what we have discussed? Supposed we have this parallelogram. Let’s use this to
complete the table. So we will be giving statements and state the reason.
D E
G F
REASON
a.
b.
c.
d.
e.
So I stated the segments DG and EF and put the reason that these sides of a parallelogram are
congruent. Do you want to try class? Do you have something in mind?
Yes, Alleah.
Very good, ∠G and ∠E; opposite angles of a parallelogram are congruent. Now, who among you here
can give me two statements with its reasons? How about Haniah?
Okay, very good. Now, who else who have their answer?
Very good again. You are able to give the correct answer. I hope the next period we have this kind of
interaction. Now let’s write down everything on the table.
REASON
a. DG and EF opposite sides of a parallelogram are
congruent
Well, then since we already learned the conditions that determine that the quadrilateral is a
parallelogram. We can now state the different properties of parallelogram.
PROPERTIES OF PARALLELOGRAM
Now, as we end our class. You prepare yourself for a learning assessment.
Class dismissed.
God bless you too. Bye, class.
