III. Objective(s)
Students will work in groups identify what a pattern is and predict what comes
next in the pattern with 80 percent accuracy.
1. Objectives:
a. I will begin by stating that we are going to talk about what patterns
are.
b. I will ask the students if they know what a pattern is. The answer is
a design that repeats itself.
c. I will explain to the students that there are many types of patterns.
d. Then I will present a short video to the class to elaborate on
patterns. (approximately two minutes)

a. Students will be divided into five groups with five students each
and placed at a table together.
b. I will then place five types of patterns in a hat containing patterns
types ABAB, ABC, AABB, AAB, ABB. One member from each
group will pull a pattern out of the hat. The pattern selected is the
type of pattern each group will be working on with the materials
provided.
c. Groups will be given a poster board and envelope containing
geometrical shapes with different colors.
d. The groups will use the shapes to create their own pattern.
e. The groups will be given ten minutes to begin their pattern and
after their ten minutes the groups will rotate from table to table to
complete the type of pattern started by the previous group.
f. After groups have been rotated to each table and returned to their
original pattern. The groups will come up to discuss what pattern is
displayed at each of their stations.
