LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 10

I-OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

a.)Identify the correct form of subject-verb agreement in a sentence;

b.)Construct correct sentences applying the rules on the subject-verb agreement; and

c.)Explain the importance of mastering the rules of subject-verb agreement in improving

skills in oral and written communication.

“OPEN SESAME”

•The teacher will show a mystery box from food panda.

•The teacher will call a student to see what's inside the box.

•The teacher will ask the following questions to be answered by the students

“Agree or not.”

1.Is cereal good for the puppy?

2.Is bone good for the baby?

3.Is cereal good for the baby?

4. Is bone good for the puppy?

d.)Lesson Presentation

Subject-verb agreement -refers to the relationship between the subject and

the verb of the sentence.

RULES OF SVA:

1.)Singular subject takes singular verb.

Ex: She writes everyday.

Ex: The light in the lamppost flickers each night.

2.)Plural subject takes plural verb.

Ex: They write everyday.

Ex: The lights in the lamppost flicker each night.

3.)When the subject of the sentence is compost of two or more nouns and

pronouns connected by and use a plural verb.

Ex: The doctoral student and the committee members write everyday.

Ex: Ana and Maria are at school.

4.)If two singular subjects connected by either/or , neither/nor requires a

singular verb.

Ex: My aunt or my uncle is arriving by train today.

Ex: Neither Juan nor Carmen is available.

5.)Some words end with “s”, but they are actually singular, so we must use a

singular verb after them.

Ex: Mathematics is my favorite subject.

Ex: The news is bad for all the family members.

A.ACTIVITY: Choral reading of the short story “The Necklace” by: Guy de

Maupassant.

a.) Pre-reading- The teacher will give a background about the story.

b.) Reading- The class, together with the teacher, will read the story aloud.

c.) Post-reading- To check their comprehension, the learners will answer the

following questions.

1.)Who are the main characters in the story?

2.)What is the thing that being talked in the story?

3.)What message does the story the necklace teach us?

d.) Group Activity:

“Construct Me Right!”

>The class will be divided into two(2)groups.

>The learners have five(5)minutes to do the task.

>The teacher will instruct the learners to:

• Make five(5) sentences that describe the characters in the story

• Make sure to observe the rules of SVA in the sentence.

• State the subject and the verb in the sentence that agree with
each other.

• Then, each group must have one(1) representative to present

and explain their outputs in front.

• Group activity outputs will be graded the following criteria:

•Correctness of answers -----------10points

•Clarity of presentation ---------------5points

•Cooperation ----------------------------5points

B. ANALYSIS:

1.) What technique did you use to accomplish the task?

C. ABSTRACTION:

1.) Why is it necessary for us to master the rules of subject-verb agreement in constructing

a sentences?

2.) Are rules of subject-verb agreement crucial in making and providing clear details and

explanations? Why or Why not?

D. APPLICATION:

>The teacher will instruct the learners to:

write an essay about your deepest gratitude for your parents and how will you pay back

the things they've done for you. Observe the basic rule of SVA in constructing an essay.

>Then, the students should write it in a one whole sheet of paper.

>Afterwards, the teacher will randomly pick three(3)students to read their

written work in front, but there’s a twist whether they will read it like a

poem or they will sing it like a song.

IV-EVALUATION:

Direction: Identify if each sentence is correct or incorrect. Write “C” if the sentence is correct. If the
sentence is incorrect write “X” and writes the correct sentence of it. Afterwards, rewrite the incorrect
sentences, to make it right.
