Unit 4

Likert scale- rating system used in questionnaires that is designed to measure people’s attitudes,
opinions or perceptions
Semantic differential scale- survey or questionnaire rating scale that asks people to rate a product,
company, brand, etc.
Likert scale is more accurate than semantic scale because it gives more of an accurate reading to what
the peoples opinion to the question is. Semantic lacks standardization which makes it difficult to decide
on the number of divisions that should be included in the scale. With fewer divisions the scale becomes
inaccurate and with more divisions the scale would go overboard.

P1
Location- the location is important because it can influence who is going to attend your event, e.g., if I
was to have an event in a basement the turnout would not be great as people would not want to go to
some random location. Especially someone’s basement. The location for a meeting or a conference is
vital because it must be suitable for the type of event being held. We will have a limit to how much
people can buy tickets to enter due to COVID-19 restrictions we can’t have overcrowding.
Catering- catering is important because there will be a lot of hungry faces at the events so if the food
isn’t up to quality, then the success of the event will go downhill as hunger will make people moodier as
they would be thirsting for a decent meal. Having a low standard of catering could cause a lot of
arguments as people are more aggressive when on an empty belly. There will be random checks on the
catering service as well to see that they are keeping up with health and safety protocols.
Planning and reserving facilities- that way you can check on the place to make sure it follows health and
safety regulations, and that the facility is big enough for the event. It also helps you plan out if the
location is big enough for all the things to be set up and enough space for people to walk around.
Venue- most important part of the event because the venue is the place the event will be taking place.
The venue is what will give people either a good or bad view towards your organization depending on
how you chose your venue to be. If your venue is not up to standard it will give people attending the
idea that you as a business are unprepared or lazy or just simply unorganized which is not a good look on
the company.
Contract- it is a written document that outline what is expected from both parties and that no one can
claim any misunderstandings down the road. For example, the event organiser if they wanted to get a
catering company to cater for them, they would need to outline what is expected from both parties,
such as catering equipment and who’s will be supplying such things.
Preparing and distributing documents- giving documents to people working at the event will make it
easier to navigate the event as everyone will be on the same page. These documents are normally given
as a hard copy or sent a pdf file so they can easily be accessed.
Setting up the programme- it’s the order the event is going to happen and will be used by attendees. The
programmes quality and content will give the people an idea of what is going to happen during the
programme. It also gives them details on whether there will be any special guests, free prizes,
entertainment and any other things along those lines. Giving a time on how long the programme is will
also benefit the people attending as they can take a break and come back refreshed for the rest of the
event. If there is alcohol being sold on sight, then proof of id will be needed, and health restrictions will
apply such as having to wear a mask when going through certain areas of the event.

Skills needed for an event organiser

Communication- you need communication skills in order to make an event run because the event will
crumble if people aren’t communicating with each other. Communication helps the event run smoothly
as everyone understands the plan on how the event will be run. You also need to communicate to give
job roles to people or they won’t know what they must do, so it’s important to have good
communicating skills.

Negotiation- in order to get the best prices you need for your event you need to have good negotiating
skills because you can discuss prices and lower it and come to an agreement of a set price for the thing
you are trying to buy. Negotiating isn’t only when you buy things, it can also be when deciding what you
would want in the event for example, the design of the event as other people might have different ideas
so they would try negotiate with their team to try get their design.

Flexibility- you need to be flexible with job roles your hours just in case members of your team are
unable to attend the event. You should also be able to work different hours in order to hold the event
from crumbling. Flexibility is crucial to event planners as they may have to untake different tasks
depending on the event they are being asked to plan.

Creativity- it’s good to be creative as an event organiser because they should push themselves to open
multiple possibilities. Creativity will have a positive impact on your event as it creates memorable
experiences for the people attending the event.
Time management- the whole event runs on time management so you need to have your timings sorted
for everything and if it’s a musical event then they need time to get to the other locations and to have
time to have a break and refresh yourself before carrying on with the event. Time management gives you
knowledge of how much time you have to start with and how much time you have spare to allocate to
certain tasks.

Problem solving- sometimes things in the event might go wrong so the event organiser needs to sort out
the problem before it gets bigger. The main thing is for the event organiser to stay calm and stay on his
feet so he can overcome the anomaly in the event. Staying calm and thinking on your feet will give you
the skills you need to overcome any challenges.

Confidence- if you lack confidence then you don’t really know what you are doing and what is going on
and the team will lack motivation and start placing things wherever. So, keep confidence up and make
sure there is a plan being followed so the event doesn’t go wrong. If you lack confidence then it will
deprive the teams motivation and they will not put 100% effort in leading for the event to be a disaster.
