LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM-

GOOGLE CLASSROOM
LMS ASHLEY SCHRAGE
WHY THIS WAS PICKED
▪ Google Classroom has been used since 2014 and now that more classes are moving online
this a great tool to utilize. This is an easy program to follow and understand for all ages. I
picked this learning management system over others that are similar, like Canvas because it
is user friendly and all you need is a Google account to be able to access it. To have
everything connected through your google drive, it makes turning in assignments that much
easier.
▪ Using Google Classroom, I believe is cleaner than using Canvas because as a student you
might have multiple assignments and it is easier to have them all in one area than not. Being
able to use Google Drive and have everything filled into categories makes it that much
easier to find and be able to turn in.
▪ When using Google Classroom as a teacher I would be able to have a template in the
assignment that students would be able to fill out and turn in in the same area. As a student
I have used both Canvas and Google Classroom and I have found for younger ages it is
easier to understand Google Classroom as I believe Canvas is more sophisticated.
Describe and identify the LMS, grade level
intended for, and subject(s)
▪ Google Classroom is an online tool that is used between educators and
students to create, submit, and grade assignments.
▪ Google Classroom can be used for all age groups; however, it is most
used between middle and high schoolers. I have decided to use it for
middle school for this project.
▪ Any subject can be projected onto it all depends on how an educator
wants to set up their classes.
Describe how you would collaborate teacher to
student and student to student
▪ Teacher-to-student work is very easy! The teacher creates an assignment or message
onto "stream", and they can see who has completed it or responded and who hasn't. I
would create the assignment and once the student has it completed and turned in, I
would be able make comments that they can see and respond to them. I also can see
when mistakes or suggestions are fixed by the student.
▪ Student-to-student work is a little more difficult unless they share the google doc or
whichever google amenity they are using with the other students. Create a group in
person and then have one student create a Google Doc and share it with the others in
the group would be the easiest way to have an assignment completed between
students.
Describe how you could use a LMS to differentiate for
both at risk students and for enrichment
▪ Google Classroom allows students to work at their own pace. If they did not finish an
assignment in class, then they can finish it at another time.
▪ You can also create choice boards on assignments that have different levels of
difficulty for students and the only person who would know is you. Teach the same
lesson, but test students understanding in different ways.
▪ This is also a great way to provide more information on assignments for students that
need it. The last thing I would want to do is embarrass a student and asking for more
help can do that, therefore having the option to add more on Google Classroom, and
others not knowing is perfect.
▪ This is also a great way to hold students accountable for their own assignments.
They can’t assume that you lost their homework when it is all online. This can also help
with your classroom management.
Describe why this LMS fits the needs of your
hypothetical group of students
▪ Classes are becoming more hybrid as we continue dealing with COVID-19, and that is
why Google Classroom is a great advantage. Being able to have feedback on
assignments is something that I find important as a student and something I will strive
for as an educator; Google Classroom allows for that to happen on all assignments.
▪ Since this can be used in all age groups this will not outgrow the internet and
continue to be used as time goes on.
▪ Google Classroom allows students to take their own lead and helps them become
familiar with different tools that Google offers. As computer science continues to
expand, learning these tools at an early age is important.
