INTRODUCTION
It is natural for people to be picky when decorating their own homes because they are the ones who
will be satisfied with the looks of their homes, and it's up to them what kind of changes or decorations they
want to add to achieve their dream home. Home decoration refers to the aesthetic components used to make a
home more attractive and visually appealing. Home decors are physical items and objects, placement of
physical things and objects, and room colors and materials. Home interior matters because it can influence
everything from your mood to your productivity and even your confidence. When you find some styling element
that you love, add it to your home. Home decoration comes in many different shapes, including flower vases,
table lamps, etc. If you can incorporate furniture, decor, art, or anything that tells your story, put it in your
home.
In this day and age, plastic bottles are not just a thing that can hold fluids. Anyone uses plastic bottles for
creating different kinds of things, such as creating a plant pot and making it into a lamp. As stated by Angelica
Yang (2021) some people use plastic bottles in schools to make a chair for the students, and sometimes
plastic bottles can even make cloth by collecting PET bottles and shedding them, turning them into recycled
polyester chips, and then after making it yarn to use to make cloth. According to Yashashvi (2020), You can
create crafts out of plastic bottles to make your study area in your home neat. This situation is unusual
because, for the beautification of things, plastic bottles are peculiar. A plastic bottle is a lightweight, cheap and
safe bottle that can hold liquid such as water, carbonated drinks, and far more, replacing bottles, namely glass
bottles, steel, and aluminum cans. According to Laura Parker(2019), before plastic became so ubiquitous, it
underwent some transformation from being a strictly natural product to being synthetically and widely
produced. It's because the rubber tree, hevea brasiliensis, once helped to create plastic bottles. The commonly
known type of plastic bottle is PET or Polyethylene Terephthalate. It's frequently a durable and lightweight
plastic bottle used as a beverage bottle.
One of the things all of us can do to protect and improve our environment is recycling. And our best example
would be PET stands for polyethylene terephthalate, and it's the material used in many plastic bottles. It
produces bottles that are both light and sturdy, which is ideal for food and beverage packaging. However, due
to excessive plastic manufacturing, the drainage systems became clogged. That results in endangering living
species not just on land but also in the water. As a result, many people have decided to reuse plastic bottles as
decorative items in their homes. You can make plastic bottles into anything, from simple flower vases, birds,
and flowers to more lavish items like garden rakes, brooms, storage containers, and shopping bags.
Additionally, you can also make bricks using plastic bottles. It may appear simple to turn it into home
decorations, but it isn't because you are creating something innovative and helpful to everyone.
Using plastic bottles to make bricks is possible. It's more affordable and durable than Concrete Bricks and
Burnt clay bricks. It's better to use plastic because it takes a long time to decompose. Plastics enable
sustainable, durable, long-lasting design and construction in homes, buildings, and infrastructure like bridges.
According to thebalancesmb.com, "The goal of recycling plastic is to reduce high rates of plastic pollution
while putting less pressure on virgin materials to produce brand new plastic products. This approach helps to
conserve resources and diverts plastics from landfills or unintended destinations such as oceans." In addition
to that, plastics are long-lasting, lightweight, and low-cost materials. They mold plastics into a variety of items
in a variety of applications. Plastics are produced more than 420 million tons per year all over the world. As a
result, plastic reuse, recovery, and recycling are necessary.
People's housing conditions have substantially increased because of the rapid growth of the social
economy and the continual progress of science and technology. And at the same time, people have raised
their expectations for the quality of life. These improvements can be seen everywhere, especially at home. The
home decorations in every Filipino household have evolved throughout the years. As years go by, the
decorations are getting better, elegant, and eco-friendly. According to Tallie Spencer (2020), homes in the
1920s were motivated by the Art Deco Movement and featured geometric furniture and bold colors. Today,
technology plays a significant part in the way homes decorate and function.
Based on J. Clement, Home decor and furnishing platforms have undergone a seven percent global traffic
increase between January and March 2020. Since people are spending most of their time staying at home, the
sales of home decorations increased. Overall, websites selling home decor and furniture products online
generated 1.7 billion visits in March 2020, up from 1.56 billion global visits in January 2020 (J. Clement). This
situation is due to a large number of employees who are trying to work from home. It requires office setups
people might not have before. As Specified by Stevens: "As the months continue, we expect they will not only
seek items for functionality and comfort but also continue to invest in their surroundings (art, decor) to
appreciate their living space."
The interior design can positively or negatively influence your productivity in a home. By adding personal
touches to your decor, such as: displaying your favorite books, creating a feature wall, adding artwork
throughout the house, fine clothing, and more, you will boost your mood, increase your motivation and
enhance your creativity. (Michael Yousef, 2019)
The problem with plastic bottles in Metro Manila is that if those plastic bottles are not recycled,
everywhere there are discarded plastic bottles, polluting the environment. When there is a typhoon, it will block
many drainage systems in various regions, causing high tide and flooding. As a result, many people suffer
because of high plastic pollution. But if all plastics were not wasted, discarded everywhere, and recycled, it
would be an enormous help in our society.
According to the Trade organization National Association for Pet Container Recycling (NAPCOR), this
essential use in almost all sectors and industries causes environmental pollution that affects our day-to-day
lives. Yet brilliant solutions exist to avoid plastic pollution. Here are a few of the neutralizing effects of plastic
pollution: Wildlife gets killed Large pieces of plastic threaten marine life by harming or mutilating species
caught in fishing nets or insemination bags. Plastic pollution in the ocean degrades over time into small
hazardous particles impacting marine organisms ranging from plankton to whales. When the tiniest organisms
get poisoned from consuming plastic, the larger animals that rely on them for nutrition suffer. Pollution of the air
and groundwater, rainwater that falls into landfills containing plastic produces toxic leachate that poses a
severe threat to the health of our groundwater. However, burning plastic releases carbon monoxide, furans,
and dioxins into the atmosphere.
According to the respondents of Arellano University, decorations are an art that pertains to design,
and objects are more valued for their use rather than just for their aesthetic qualities. AUEEC students often
use recyclable ones such as straws, plastic or plastic bottles that are usually found in the trash or scattered in
the area. Plastic bottles are considered beneficial because of the variety of things we can do with them, such
as creating plant container designs or decorative designs for our homes.
In this situation, the researchers would like to know if the customers would accept home decoration
using a plastic bottle as central material. The study aims to identify the acceptance level of Plastic Bottles as a
Home Decoration by measuring their satisfaction based on the ability to beautify homes, quality, price, and
size.
Background and Details of the Product
Plastique: Plastic bottles as home decoration are made with eco-friendly plastic bottles which are
turned as a home decoration to make the home of the customers aesthetically pleasing. A home is both a
place where anyone can come and a place where you spend the majority of your time. Everything is going
online right now, so you don't need to go out. Because we spend so much of our time at home, we need to
surround ourselves with items that may both lighten our spirits and make our houses seem nice. The product is
called "Plastique" since we want to utilize plastic bottles as house decorations. As an outcome, customers may
assist reduce plastic pollution while simultaneously improving the appearance of their house by utilizing the
product. We want to make the product environmentally friendly. Our product is inexpensive, with prices ranging
from 50 to 100 pesos, due to the fact that it is made primarily of plastic. Furthermore, the product features
pastel hues that might help to lift the customer's spirits. Some homes lack sufficient room for decorations,
preventing them from being displayed. That is why our goods come in a variety of sizes ranging from 5 to 30
inches to ensure that they will fit into any home.
This study aims to know the acceptance level of Plastique: Plastic Bottles as a Home Decoration by
measuring their satisfaction based on the ability to beautify homes, quality, price, and size. The researchers
are conducting surveys on selected students in grade 11 ABM students' AM shift of Arellano University Elisa
Esguerra Campus from October to May 2021-2022. The scope of this study only focuses on plastic bottles.
Therefore, other bottles, such as glass bottles, are not included. Also, this study eliminates solutions on how to
fix plastic bottle pollution.
Significance of the Study
This research is entitled Plastique: Acceptance of Plastic Bottles as Home Decoration. It aims to know
the level of acceptance of Grade 11 students in Arellano University Elisa Esguerra Campus in Plastique:
Plastic bottles home decoration.
First and foremost for the future researchers, This research will serve as a reference and source of
information for the relevant study about the benefit of each plastic bottle as a home decoration.

regret buying because this is unique and their home will become more elegant in this kind of product as a
home decoration.
Last but not the least, the Grade 11 students can save and help in starting recycling and it will help
them to develop their creativity and for them to have the idea that they can also turn it into a business.
We, as researchers, the research we have done will help the environment to be clean and reduce the
plastic bottles that are scattered everywhere so the research we have done will go to the community because
our community will be neat and clean because of the decoration we made of the plastic bottles that the people
just throw away. Also as researchers we can give the sellers product knowledge and by that they can apply
this knowledge for their business.
Statement of the Problem
This study aims to know the acceptance level of Plastic Bottles as Home Decoration. The researchers
sought an answer to the following questions.
2. What is the acceptance level of Plastic bottle home decorations by the respondents in terms of:
2.1 Function/Purpose
2.2 Concept/Idea
2.3 Appearance
3. Is the product Plastique: Plastic bottle home decorations accepted by the respondents?
METHODOLOGY
A. Research Design
A Quantitative approach was applied to this study, followed by a descriptive method to obtain a
complete picture of the respondents' impression of the researcher's innovative product. This approach was
chosen to measure if the general respondents would accept the product. Moreover, a descriptive method is
utilized for the respondents to relate to, see and feel the product from the buyer's point of view.
C. Research Instruments
This study was written to determine the effectiveness of the level of acceptance of plastic bottles as
home decorations. The researchers applied an instrument in the form of a scaling device to answer the fifteen
(15) questions researchers had. A scaling device is involved to see the satisfaction and acceptance of
respondents to the products. The survey form was divided into three (3) ways of criteria. These are function
and purpose, concept and idea, and appearance. The researchers did not use pen and paper for the
respondents to answer the survey. Instead, researchers created a google form to gather responses from the
respondents in the grade 11 ABM strand.
The researchers employed a percentage of the distribution that included the frequency and the total
number of students.
Data presentation, analysis, and interpretation are all part of this process. The researcher's proposed
questionnaires are used to collect data from respondents in this study.
TABLE 1
GENDER
Frequency Percentage
Female 26 52%
Male 24 48%
Total 50 100%
Table 1 shows the number of female and male students who answered the survey. 26 or 52% of the
sample size was girls, and 24 or 48% of the sample size was boys. The table has a total of 50 respondents,
which is 100% of the researcher's target respondents.
The researchers decided to find female and male students to get two different perspectives. The
researchers wanted to know if the researcher's product was accepted by a female respondent since females'
expectations about furniture and home decorations are higher than males. The researchers also wanted to
know if the researcher's product was accepted by male respondents based on his expectations about home
decorations.
TABLE 2

11-1A 13 26%
11-2A 13 26%
11-3A 12 24%
11-4A 12 24%
Total 50 100%
It shows in table 2 that the frequency of the respondents in grades 11 1A and 2A had the same
population at 13 or 26%. In 11th grade, 3A, and 4A, both sections had the same frequency as 12 or 24% of the
overall population, which is 100%.
The sections of 11th grade of 1A and 11 2A have a higher frequency than the other two sections, grade
11 3A, and 4A. Both sections had a lower frequency because the study used systematic sampling where the
researcher chose every 12th to 13th person to make a pattern out of the population sampled.
TABLE 3
FUNCTION AND PURPOSE
4 3 2 1 TOTAL SCALE
In the 3rd table, respondents are completely satisfied with the 1st and 2nd statements. It indicates that
the product showed evolution or upgrades in home decorations, and it changed the moods of the consumer by
using calm and harmonious colors. The highest rate is the 3rd statement, where the respondents are
completely satisfied that the product consumed less space. The 3rd statement has a 3.56 total rate. On the 4th
statement, most respondents chose the very satisfactory that the home decoration's durability is higher than
usual home decorations. The 5th statement received the lowest rating of 3.32, indicating that respondents are
very satisfied that the possibility of purchasing this product is high for its given feature. This product has very
pleasing features based on its appearance, materials used, durability, and flexibility. As a result, the possibility
of consumers purchasing this product is high.
TABLE 4
CONCEPT AND IDEA
It is shown in the concept and ideas 6th statement that respondents are very satisfied regarding the use
of plastic bottles as being new in their eyes as a product. It has a total of 3.34, the lowest rate of all statements.
On the 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th, the respondents were completely satisfied that the product came in different
forms, such as hanging decorations, wall decor, and vases. The product was also eco-friendly, where it has the
highest rate of 3.76. Moreover, the respondents are completely satisfied that the product has a low price,
considering its price range of ₱50-100 and as the product can reflect customers' personalities.
TABLE 5
APPEARANCE
The 12th statement shows that the respondents are very satisfied that the product size can be placed
on a surface ranging from 5 to 22 inches while hanging decorations range from 10 to 30 inches, which has a
total of 3.3, the lowest rate in the statement. The 11th, 13th,14th, and 15th statements show that the
respondents are completely satisfied that the constructed product, primarily used lightweight plastic bottles.
The product has distinctive characteristics such as pastel and minimalist design, where it has the highest rate
of 3.8. Moreover, the respondents are completely satisfied that the product's appearance is very detailed
considering its inventions are custom made, rounded, and mainly horizontal in shape, which usually fits the
home's construction.
Based on the data gathered, there's a high possibility that the product can be accepted by the
respondents. They established their response based on the product's function, purpose, idea, concept, and
appearance. The product is not completely durable and not completely new in the consumer’s eyes because
they have already seen some people and even themselves use plastic bottles as decoration; hence, they did
not entirely proclaim that it has a high chance of them buying the product. They also admit that the product has
a low price, as they know that the product doesn't cost much and it will reduce their expenses on decoration.

Conclusions
Recommendations
Based on the findings of the research that has been presented, the following recommendations are
suggested:
The first is for future researchers. They may use this research as a reference and expand it further and
know more details and responses to this study. They may use an advertisement or a presentation that shows
the uniqueness of the production of your home decoration materials. Since it's distinctive and fresh to the eye
of the buyer, it's advisable to make discount coupons for your products. They may try to create home
decorations that are easy to lift and make a smaller version for some tiny apartments. So even people with
smaller houses can decorate their homes.
Second, the community, particularly individuals wishing to establish a business. With this, everyone will
understand that anyone can start a business with small funds and a great chance of success. They could also
sell low-cost home décor, as other firms do.
Third, to the sellers, it’s advisable to use products for your business that are eco-friendly and
recyclable. For example, instead of using plastics for packaging, they could use unused cloth and use it as
packaging. They may look and use the ideas that this research has to achieve an eco-friendly business.
Fourth, to the homemakers, as they want to make their homes presentable, it’s advisable to use plastic
bottles for home decorations as they can be affordable, elegant, and can have an aesthetic look. They may
also purchase products from industries that use plastic bottles as a primary product because businesses like
that will reduce garbage at home if they recycle bottles as decoration.
Lastly, the Grade 11 ABM students could try to buy more eco-friendly products. That way it would help
the environment and the business they will buy from.
We as researchers may try to improve our products’ sizes by providing a video that shows the actual
size of the products. That way they wouldn't imagine the sizes and they will see how big or small it is to help
them decide if it would fit in their homes. We could also try to improve other features of the products such as
the designs, by doing that, it could possibly increase the product’s chance of being accepted by the
respondents.
