Writing a Lesson Plan (100 points)

Choice Activity (From curriculum map): Bracelet or lacing beads.

Age: 5-6
Domain: Fine motor skills, Hand Eye Coordination
Theme: Alphabet

1. Objectives and Goals (What is the standard/standards you will cover with this lesson 10
pts
Students will be able to learn the alphabet and spell words using beads.

2. Anticipatory Set (What is your introduction to this lesson: Give Detail) 15 pts.
Students will learn their alphabet through an activity and learn how to spell out words
with letter beads.

3. Required Materials for Activity 10 pts

1 Lace
26 Beads (one of each letter) you can choose either lowercase, uppercase letter, or both.

4. Direct Instruction (Define lesson step by step) 15 pts

First, each student will be given a string and 26 letters from the alphabet. Each student
can pick if they want to use lowercase letters or uppercase letters for their necklace, next
the student will decide what they want to do with each bead if they want to add the
alphabet to their necklace or if they want to spell words with them like their name.
5. Guided Practice (Scaffolding/Questions: How will YOU participate in this lesson) 15 pts

The prior knowledge that students are building on is learning the letters of the alphabet.
Students can string the letters to complete A-Z, or they can spell simple words and their
names (if there are not double letters). They will also learn Hand/Eye coordination and
special recognition for being able to line up the beads and place them on the lace. The
students will also gain fine motor skill – Practicing using fine motor pincer grasp to
manipulate the beads. Builds hand muscles and dexterity which are essential for a proper
pencil grasp.
This will also help students concentrate better when it comes to a task where they must be
sitting down and focus on it better.

6. What will you assess during this lesson? 10 pts

During the lesson I would take notes during class or I will video tape myself to see how I
deliver the lesson plan in a classroom. I would also ask a trusted colleague to observe as I
teach the lesson plan.

7. Closing: (Answer the following questions) 25 points

List DAP principles that relate to this lesson.

 Children learn in a variety of ways and are actively engaged in learning.

 Development and learning occur when children are slightly challenged and
through practice.

Have you looked at inclusion? Culture? Is it planned well?

Yes, I have investigated inclusion with this lesson plan. In this lesson plan I developed
hands on activities that allow children to work directly with objects and materials in
their environment. I also gave clear instructions to each student. I don’t think it is
planned well.
