Daily Lesson Plan Format

Name: Trinity Robertson Date(s) of Lesson: 4 of 15

Student Learning Objective(s) and Related Assessment(s):

Learning Target: Students can conduct research to shape their reading of their book
club books by shaping their discussion through notes collected from their research of the
author/book/era. This means students will be able to engage with the cultural context
surrounding the books they read and not just the books themselves

Language Objective: Students will make connections with this week’s vocabulary
words by making connections to synonyms, pictures, phrases, examples, or definitions on
posters around the classroom.

Standard(s):
Integrate and evaluate multiple sources of information presented in different media or
formats (for example: visually, quantitatively) as well as in words in order to address a
question or solve a problem. (CCSS: RI.11-12.7)

Materials/Resources:
East Asian American Literature – Contemporary Presentation
Graffiti Activity Posters

Learning Activities:

Initiation:
- The teacher will play the first minute a video by “Book-tuber” Jack Edwards
titled “reading only ASIAN books for a week *7 books for 7 days*” and allow
students to guess what he learned or gained from this experience (10 Minutes)
Lesson Development: Book Club Discussions
- Students will take notes in their journal as the teacher gives a brief minilesson on
contemporary East Asian American Literature. (15 Minutes)
- Students will be looking at their book club books and assessing, based on what
they’ve read so far and information they research about the book’s history and
author, to inform their discussion and questions during their book club meeting.
- Book Club Discussions: Students will bring their sticky note annotations to guide
their book club discussions for today. Students are expected to write a minimum
of two sticky notes during their reading (submitted before class begins via a
picture upload on Google Classroom), and address at least one of their sticky note
annotations during discussion. While book club discussions occur, the teacher will
monitor and confer with students on their progress and depth of understanding of
their book (25 Minutes)
Closure: Graffiti Activity and Wrap Up
- Student will participate in a graffiti activity where they will be asked to visit a
poster around the room with one of their weekly vocab terms “graffitied” at the
top of the poster. They will be asked to “graffiti” a synonymous word, picture,
phrase, or definition to convey their understanding of their chosen word using
colored pencils, markers, or crayons. (15 Minutes)
- The teacher will wrap up the day by asking students to reflect in their journals
about the previous two lessons in conjunction with each other (5
Minutes)
