THAILAND VS.

PHILIPPINES VOLLEYBALL BOYS’ TOURNAMENT

Name: Hazel Zulla Course and Level: BSN II
Instructions: Give your analysis and criticism on the performance of both teams.

1. ATTACKS

Both teams showed excellent attacks to get a point and to kill the ball on the court of the
opposite team. Thailand used powerful attacks that makes hard for the opposite team which is
the Philippines to block because of the powerful movement of the ball. Thailand also performs
on the strong side the left side of the court is used for left-handed hitters, which makes the
opposite team have difficulty blocking. This is also their advantage because the Philippine team
often used or is more used to right-side blocking. However, in the Philippines team, one of the
strategic attacks that they do is they do the roll shot which means that the ball that they place
the ball on the side to avoid the blocks and makes the spike higher or above the blockers. Both
teams apply the power alley which means that the cross-court spike reaches the end of the
court which usually no player since every player in Infront is ready with a near hit spike. Often
the middle blocker does this type of attack. In attacks they also deceive players act like a
strong attack but end up a slow spin speed attack. Their attacks are always in powerful spike
with angle downward that makes the team hard to receive because it is moving faster
downward that would lead to killing the ball. Aside from that is both teams also had attack
errors because they aim to make the ball at the back for the attack there are times the ball
goes outside the court.
2. DEFENSE

In terms of defense, the team's Philippines showed great blocking skills in every attack of the
opposing team. Both teams executed double blocks the two players working in unison to deflect
an attack that help prevent the successful attacking. The good strategy of Thailand is that they
attack the left-side of the court which makes it hard for the Philippines to suppress the attack that
should the one need to be strengthened for the team the weak side blocker. The teams perform
closing the block or they seal the block between the two blockers so that there is no space in
between that would be a chance of points. The teams also have the defense of getting stuffed the
ball blockers block the ball straight down on the floor just as hard as it was hit.

3. STRATEGIES

The strategies executed on both teams are teamwork and the effort of each player. After the
block, they always return to their original position so that if the ball gets back to the court, they
are ready for the attack. They both have a different strategy to win the match or to gain points.
In terms of attacking strategy, they make sure that blocks are avoided or the attack most at the
end of the court which is a free space for the ball to kill. They have also a set strategy by getting
the spiker a good set for a greater and more powerful attack. In both teams, they make sure that
the setter has a good set to the spiker so that the other team will have difficulty blocking and
digging the ball. Another strategy is the blocking, the teams perform closing the block or they
seal the block between the two blockers so that there is no space in between that would be a
chance of points. The strategy is when the digger or receiver receives the ball must properly to
the setter and the setter pass to the spiker. They have also the strategy wherein they confused
the opposing them during blocking both spikers jump in unison so that the other them will get
confused about who will hit the ball for a spike. They also have the strategy of slow-speed hit but
act like a strong hit to deceive the other team.
4. STRENGHTS

The teams have different strengths in terms of spikes the Philippines is more powerful and earn
points in their attacks. A strong hit of the ball to attack the other team with a strong force of the hit. This
way the other team will have a hard time receiving the ball because of a strong hit. Their strength also is
the blocks They deflect a spiked ball back into the opponent’s court by jumping in front of the ball with
their hands above the net. and they also have good digging skills, skillful in receiving a ball or a strong
spike. This is the result of points earned in the match. While in Thailand they are stronger in aces which
means they gain points in each service, a service that is not returned and results in a point. Each team has
powerful attacks.

5. WEAKNESSES

While the weakness is the service most often some services become outside ball and
sometimes hit the net that wasn’t able to transfer to another side of the court. Reception as
well especially if it is a strong attack the ball often bounces in a different direction, the
defense they are blocks because of a strong hit the ball goes to another direction, and
sometimes the spike is redirected by the spiker to avoid the block, this most improve in every
team because often this is the reason of earning points, and attack errors and back row
player because the player is often in the front to be ready for an attack the back row is
forgotten that’s the reason there is space to kill the ball. These are the weaknesses of both
teams.
