3 Assignment: Reflection - Funds of

Knowledge & Community Capital
For this assignment, you will spend time reflecting on your own cultural community wealth and how it
impacts who we are, the ways we learn, and the community you will be observing in your clinical experience
(Kville middle school).

Follow these steps to complete the assignment:

1. Write your responses to the two prompts below. Try to answer each one with at least one paragraph
(5-6 sentences). Use this “Cultural Wealth Wheel” diagram by Wenatchee Valley College to help you
brainstorm before writing (if you need it).

○ How might your cultural community wealth benefit you in your education or future career?
My Cultural Community Wealth benefits could help me in my future career in many ways.
I would consider myself in the middle. My family is pretty comfortable with where they are at
financially. Overall my Cultural Wealth could benefit me in ways like having more resources
which could possibly open up more opportunities. Also considering where I grew up, and how
diverse things are, I see how different people are. That will help me in the real world, so It's not
just one thing everyday that I see and that I am around.

○ What kind of school district do you think you would work in IF you became a teacher? What
sorts of cultural community wealth do you think your future students have? Are their funds of
knowledge the same or different than what you have listed? How will you know?

If I ever became a teacher I would definitely want to work in a diverse district. Even
though I am white, I would hate to work in a school that is mainly white people. I personally
couldn't deal with the racist comments and uneducated people just because I've never been
around that really. Yes, I know that's all they might know, but I would rather be in a diverse
school. I feel people in a more diverse community seem to understand each other.
