Climate region of the muslim world


Q1: What is the Equatorial Region and what are its important characteristics?
Answer: The Equatorial Region: the region which is located between 5 degrees
north and 5 degrees south of the equator is called the equatorial region. this
region includes the Muslim countries of Indonesia and Malaysia. Important
characteristics:
The important characteristics of the equatorial region are as follows.
1. The sun rays fall almost vertically at the equator throughout the year.
2. Great amount of evaporation causes heavy rainfall in the region.
3. Cool breeze blows in the evening and make the weather pleasant.
4. Due to heavy rainfall, thick forests grow in the area
5. Houses are mostly made of wood and stand on pillars
6. There are numerous ponds and lakes
7. Almost every family has its own boat to move from one place to another.
8. Fishing is common and fish is the staple food of the people of this region.
9. Common crops cultivated in this region are rice, sugar cane, rubber, tea and
tobacco.

Q2: Why do the people living in the Equatorial Region build their houses above
the surface of the ground?
Answer: The houses in this Equatorial region are constructed not on the surface
of ground. They fix the wooden pillars in the ground -the equaland and construct
their houses on these pillars. Thus, the walls and floors of their houses remain
safe from being damaged by the rain-water.

Q3: Which countries are included in the Monsoon Region and what are the
characteristics of this region?

Answer: The Monsoon Region

The Monsoon Region includes two Muslim countries - Pakistan and Bangladesh. In
this region, most of the rain is received in the summer season. The temperature
also rises considerably high in summer. Winters mostly go dry. In the areas where

rain fall is scanty, thorny bushes and ordinary grass grow. The most important
crops of this region i.e., Pakistan and Bangladesh are rice and wheat.

Q4: Where is the Hot Desert Region located and which Muslim countries does this
region include? Also write down the climatic conditions of the region.
Answer: The Hot Desert Region covers the areas located between latitudes 20°
and 30° north of the Equator around the tropic of Cancer and between latitudes
20 and 30° south of the Equator around the tropic of Capricorn. This region
includes some Muslim countries of Algeria, Libya and southern parts of Egypt.
Saudi Arabia, the Yemen, Iraq, Iran and the Persian Gulf States. In the Hot Desert
Region, the summer season is considerably prolonged. It is very hot during the
day time because the sand is heated up soon in the sun, and the temperature
goes high. The hot winds blow and it is very difficult to work without cooling After
sunset the people get relief. At nights the sand cools down soon, and the weather
becomes slightly pleasant. The Hot Desert Region has no definite season of rain.
There fall slight showers of rain a few times a year. Sometimes it rains so heavily
that a lot of damage is caused. Then it may not rain for three or four years.

Q5: In which season does the rain shower in the Mediterranean Region? What
crops are usually grown in this region?
Answer: The rain showers in the winter season in the meditation region the crops
which are usually grown in this region are wheat and fruits.

Q6: Where do trade winds blow and what is their direction? Why do they not
cause rainfall?
Answer: The trade winds blowing towards the Muslim countries of the Middle
East and North Africa come from dry areas. They, therefore, lack moisture and do
rainfall. Another reason for scanty rainfall in these countries is that the trade
winds blow from the North towards equator.

Q7: What do you know about the Sudan Climatic Region?

Answer: The Sudan climate region

The Sudan and the northern parts of Nigeria are located in a region where rainfall
occurs in the summer season. As it does not rain heavily, no thick forests are

found in this region. However, long grass grows in this area. This region is called
the Sudan Climatic Region.
