Semi-detailed Lesson Plan

in

Organic Chemistry

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, at least 90% of the students are expected to:

1. Identify the structure of an aldehyde.

2. Use the IUPAC System in naming aldehydes.
3. Apply the knowledge gained in distinguishing various given aldehydes.
4. Differentiate the types of aldehydes.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Naming Aldehydes in the IUPAC System

Pages 234-235

III. LEARNING MATERIALS

 Illustrations
 Cellphones as tool for an activity
 Projector
 Laptop

IV. PROCEDURE
A. Preparation/Preliminary Activities
a. Opening Prayer/Classroom Management/Attendance
b. Students will be assigned with numbers randomly (for classroom activity
purposes).

B. Lesson Proper/Presentation
1. Activity: Find My Location
The whole class will be grouped into 3, each group will be given cut off
pieces of names for aldehyde structure which will be scattered on the floor. The 3
groups will do a vertical line whenever there’s no sign to start on finding the
location of the aldehyde name, if the students will be able to find the location of
what is being asked they’ll form a horizontal line with the words on their hand
needed in naming the structure. There will be 5 items, each item will be given 10
seconds to be analyzed and answered.

2. Spill Me out
The students are asked to speak out what they have observed from the
performed activity. They can ask questions, this way the professor will be able to
elaborate more about naming aldehydes through IUPAC system by giving more
example.

C. Learning Activity
 Send Me Your Answer
Students are requested to find a partner, cellphones are needed so
students should get their cellphones and get ready to identify the provided
structures as well as names of aldehydes for 30 seconds each (there will be 5
items). The professor will be able to know her class’ answers through the
integration of mobile phones. Send me your answer activity is not a race but
there’s a timer so still students are needed to be at haste. Also, students’
positions are needed: that one facing in front will analyze and the answer will
be written on the provided paper, both will change position and the other one
facing backward earlier will type the answer written on the paper then send it
to the professor privately.

V. EVALUATION
 Quiz
The students will now answer the provided work sheet to see the progress of
their learning from the very beginning. It will consist of 10 items to be answered
within 10 minutes.
