of bond that carbon form that result in the devirsirty of
carbon compound

B. Performance Standard The learner should be able to recognize the general classes
and uses of organic Compound
C. Learning Competencies

D. Learning Objectives

Objectives:
1. Describe the physical and chemical properties of alkane
2. Give common example of alkane and mention their uses
3. Perform combustion reaction of alkane
4. Identify job career related to the production of alkane
base product
5. Observe teamwork and cooperation in doing activity
II. Content Variety of Carbon compounds
Organic compound

IV. PROCEDURE
PRELIMENARY ACTIVITIES Prayer:

1. The teacher will call one of the students to lead the

prayer.
“ Mr. Cruz please lead the prayer”

Greetings:

1. The teacher greets the students and vice versa.

“Good morning class!”

Attendance:
1. The teacher will look each of the students who are in
and not in class.
“ very good because everybody are present”

Classroom management:

1. The teacher will remind the rules that will be follow

inside the class ours.

a. Respect each other

b. respect and listen to the teacher
c. be kind
d. be on time
e. be quite when someone is talking
f. cooperate with your classmates
g. help each other

Passing of assignment:

1. The teacher will ask to the students to pass their

assignment.
Direction: In a ¼ sheet of paper defined the following:
a. Alkane
b. Chemical
c. Distillation

E.1 ELECIT
Have the students recall the three types of chemical
bonds. Ask them to briefly explain each.

Emphasize that covalent bonding is exhibited

hydrocarbons one of the general classes of organic
compounds. Through the Socratic methods and using
common objects in the environment let the student realize
that hydrocarbons are found everywhere this will serve as
spring board in asking the trivial questions later on
E.ENGAGE Show a picture of fractional distillation to the class let the
students identify it.
Then ask the following questions

1. what industry makes use of fractional distillation?

2. what common products are obtained in the fractional
distillation?
Student are expected to give fuel product. Ask these follow
up question

3. what vehicles use for them to run

4. do you know where the gasoline stations gensan city are
located .

5. what are these gasoline station

6. which gasoline station offer cheapest price for one lier

of there variety product

E.3 EXPLORE Divide the student into group of five. Each group
has it own leader secretary time keeper presenter
and material manager. The student will bring out
the material that were assigned to bring likewise
provide the needed laboratory apparatus. Discuss
the objectives and procedure of the activity

Let the student perform the activity and answer

the guide questions. Do maximum supervision
while the student perform the group activity

Activity: investigating physical and chemical

properties of alkaline

1. Describe the color odor and texture of the

following materials: gasoline , kerosene , paraffin
wax candle and lubricating grease

2. Dissolve a sample amount of materials

mentioned in number 1 in water and describe
what happen.

3. Using matchstick carefully burn a sample

amount of the material mentioned in number 1
and describe what happen
E.4 EXPLAIN After the activity the student present their answer to the
guide question. A representative in each group will present
and discuss the observation and answer to the guide
question based on the experiment conducted

E.5 ELABORATE Strengthen the concepts gained by the student in the

activities through lecture discussion and video clip
presentation containing fractional distillation and the
other uses of alkanes . correct misconception as the need
arises

Further, discuss the possible carrers related to the

extraction and purification of fuels like chemical petrol
mechanical and industrial engeenering

Address the last three questions in the elicit part by asking

student the effect of putting up gasoline stations in
populated area. Ask other concerns on the use of fossil
fuel
E. Evaluation 1. The teacher will tell 3 of the students to get a cup of
water.
2. The teacher will tell a poverty of south Africa in terms of
water.
3. the teacher will ask following questions to its students:

a. While holding your cup of water explains why you

need to care you river?
b. What are benefits of water in human life?
c. How do budgets your water?
d. What is the importance of lake?
e. Why do we need to value each drop of water?

V.
TRUE OR FALSE . Analyze the following statement. Write
true if the statement is correct. Otherwise write false
Erasure are not allowed

1. alkanes are soluble in water

2. alkanes have low boiling point
3. pentane and butane are !mainly used as fuel in the form
of liquefied petroleum gas
4. when alkane undergo combustion with insufficient
amount of oxygen, carbon monoxide is produced as one of
the product
5. alkane are unsaturated hydrocarbons
MULTIPLE CHOICE

6. What is the chemical formula of nonane

a. C9H16 b. C9H17 c. C9H18 d. C9H20

component of a mixture like crude oil which have different
boiling point by means of vaporazation.

a. simple didtillation b. fractional distillation c. cracking

d. dewaxing

8. Cetane is one of the product of fractional distillation of

crude oil, commomly found in

a. gasoline b kerosene c. diesel oil d. antiknock agent

9. the clean or complete combustion of methane natural
