What It Means To Be A Global Citizen

From a native of a country to a citizen of the world, as time passes the

changes in the world seems to becoming more and more visible. To which now what
we call a global citizen. In every country where we live our lives differently and with
diverse values and culture. We understand the interconnectedness of the world as well
as respecting and valuing each other hence the diversity. A global citizen are people
who distinguishes the emerging world communities whose actions contributes to the
welfare of the values and practices.
What does it mean to be a global citizen? It is connecting to other world
communities to mobilize and to create change. Through a mutual goal, they advocate
local, national and global to unite the same policy to address and give solutions that
we see worldwide. According to Ron Israel, “A global citizen is someone who
identifies with being part of an emerging world community and whose actions
contribute to building this community’s values and practices.” Seeing other things in
the eyes of other people is one of the key of being a global citizen. Think global and
act local to create sustainable changes in the communities. To be aware of what is
happening in our world, caring for the environment and the welfare of other people is
a selfless attitude of a global citizen. Global affairs no matter where it occurs, it will
affects us all. We shouldn’t be confined in the invisible lines that makes our countries
perimeter and so being a global citizen we must be aware of what is happening not
only locally but globally. Being involved in intergroup actually makes you
apprehensive about the culture and valuing diversity. This usually includes providing
aid to people in outside groups or people who you are unfamiliar to. It is able to do so
by making financial assistance or donations, and volunteering to hunger stricken areas
or simply joining organizations that assist them. As global citizen you need to be of
support and heed in humankind as a whole. And although we are miles apart from
other communities, with the advancement of technology, we are able to help others
just by the power of spreading awareness via social media.
We were always looking for things that separate us, but as a global citizen we
should seek of what will unite us. The world is not only about you and not only about
other people, but it is about recognizing that we are in one community together. And
in these community together, we people, as a citizen of the world needs to start being
aware that in everything we do we must always consider what’s best for everyone and
not just for yourselves. The world may be changing faster than we thought, but it
could also be a positive difference. And support building a fairer, safer, and secure
communities for everyone.
