CHAPTER 1

Introduction

Modular learning distance is form of learning delivery modality developed by the

department of education (DepEd) in which learning takes place without physical

interaction between teachers and learners. Modular learning is the approach where

the focus is on learning outcomes, and its success relies on connecting outcomes to

student learning and course designed as discussed by Biggs (1999). MDL is in the

form of individualized instruction that allows (SMLs) in print or digital format / electronic

copy, whichever is applicable in the context of the learner and other learning

resources.

The new normal education along with the different modalities faced different

disapprovals at first because of the risk but with the effort of education sectors in the

Philippines it is done systematically for the goal of continuing education despite the

pandemic. There are teachers who look at the pandemic as a challenge of educational

growth by means of making the (SLMs) self-learning modules, compiling all the

necessary lessons and objectives and competencies in a single module for different

subjects per quarter.

The key purpose of this research is to find out the challenges encountered by

the teachers, parents, and students in the implementation of modular distance learning

in the Philippines public secondary schools. Also, this study aims to ascertain the

methods intervention and solutions of every educational and institution as well as the
government in providing assistance to students, parents who are having difficulty in

this new learning modality.

Objectives:

 To determine the influence of modular learning behavior of the grade 10 -

students.

 To identify the effect of modular distance learning to the performances of Grade

10-students.

Independent and dependent variables

 The independent variable is the impact of modular distance learning.

 The dependent variable is the performance of grade 10 students.

Statement of the Problem

This study aims to identify the Impact of Modular Distance Learning to the

performances of Grade 10 students in Kananga National High School Junior

Department. This study sought to answers the following question.

1. What is the impact of the MDL to the performances of grade 10 students

assessed by the students themselves in terms of:

1.1. Self-learning assessment

1.2. Modular learning behavior

2. How modular distance learning affects the performance of grade 10- students?

3. What is the performance of grade 10 students after the self-learning

assessment?

4. What recommendation may be proposed to guide the grade 10 students

towards modular distance learning?

Hypothesis

There is no significant different on the self-learning assessment on 2 groups of

respondents regarding the impact modular distance learning to the performances of

grade 10- students.
