Activities
1. The Ocean consist 95.50%,While the Freshwater only consist 2.50%,And the
Other Saline consist 0.90%.
2. The Glaciers and Ice caps consist 68.70%, While the Surface/other freshwater
only consist 1.20%, And the Groundwater consist 30.10%.

Guided Practice 2
1.High Heat Capacity- Water's high heat capacity is a property caused by
hydrogen bonding among water molecules.

2. High Heat of Vaporization-The heat of vaporization of water is

the highest known. The heat of vaporization is defined as the amount
of heat needed to turn 1 g of a liquid into a vapor, without a rise in the
temperature of the liquid.

3. Surface Tension- Surface tension could be defined as the property of

the surface of a liquid that allows it to resist an external force, due to the
cohesive nature of the water molecules.

4. Cohesion and adhesion- Water is attracted to water. Adhesion: Water is

attracted to other substances. Adhesion and cohesion are water properties that
affect every water molecule on Earth and also the interaction of water molecules
with molecules of other substances.

5. Water becomes less dense when freezes- This is due to

ice's density being less than liquid water's density. Upon freezing,
the density of ice decreases by about 9 percent

6. Universal Solvent- This is important to every living thing on earth. It means that
wherever water goes, either through the air, the ground, or through our bodies, it
takes along valuable chemicals, minerals, and nutrients.

7. Boiling and Freezing Point- Boiling point elevation is the raising of a

solvent's boiling point due to the addition of a solute. Similarly, freezing
point depression is the lowering of a solvent's freezing point due to the addition
of a solute. In fact, as the boiling point of a solvent increases, its freezing
point decreases.

Independent Practice: Floating Needle

Guide Questions:
1. This occurs because of the surface tension that is created by
the water molecules. Cohesion and surface tension keep the water molecules
intact and the item floating on the top. It is even possible to “float” a
steel needle on top of a glass of water if you place it gently, without breaking the
surface tension.
2. When soap is added to the water, the needle will be driven to sink by the
disruption of the water's surface tension. ... Surfactants reduce
the surface tension of water by adsorbing at the liquid-gas interface. They also
reduce the interfacial tension between oil and water by adsorbing at the liquid-
liquid interface.

3. I observed in my environment that it is constantly raining.

Reflection
1. Water is essential because it Carries nutrients and oxygen to cells. Lubricates
joints. Lessens burden the on kidneys and liver by flushing out waste products.
Helps dissolve minerals and nutrients to make them accessible to your body.
2. The different properties of water are Cohesion, Adhesion, Surface tension, High
specific heat or heat capacity, High heat of vaporization, Water as a solvent,
Capillary action.

3. The distribution of water on earth can be summarized as only 3% of water on

the surface is fresh; the remaining 97% resides in the ocean. Of freshwater, 69%
resides in glaciers, 30% underground, and less than 1% is located in lakes, rivers,
and swamps.
