When Miss VanDellen was
younger she remembers going to
her grandparents house for her
favorite lunch-- Spaghettios and
chocolate milk , Then she would
dance in th e living room to her
grandma 's ABBA records , Miss
VanDellen also recalls junior high:
"Junior high was awkward for me ,
I've alwavs been a little on the tall
side, so I'remember a lot of other
kids telling me, 'Hey, you 're tall!'
Like I didn 't alreadv know that.
Some kids thought it'was cool, but
most kids really didn 't care either
wa y, I just did my own thing and
didn 't reallv care what anyone
th ought. It \~'as awkward atttmes,
but I still managed to have fun, "

Mrs , Nelson enjoys working with
young teenagers, seeing their eyes
light up when they catch on to a
conc ept. She finds it frustrating
when she tries and tries to put a
student on track, and he /she just
can 't seem to put it all together,
She worries, sometimes, about
what kind of job and future he /
she will have if they can 't integrate
themselves into our very competi-
tive society, Mrs , Telson suggests
that students get involved in ex-
tracurri cular activities in addition
to academics, It teaches you to
organize your time, whi ch will
benefit you greatly in the future,

" Ever since I was a child," says
Miss Brinnehl, " I knew I wanted to
teach in some manner. Music had
always been a big part of my life,
so it was \'ery natural to end up
teaching something I love! "
Mrs. Katula
Language Arts/Health
Mrs , Katula 's favorite childhood memory was running
around on Soldier Field, Her father worked for the
Chicago Park District. She had the entire field to
herself, Mrs. Katula began teaching tennis when she
was a sophomore in high school. It was then that she
reali zed how much she enjoyed teaching, What Mrs,
Katula finds most enjoyable is " the ah-ha experience",
when a student finally understands a concept. On the
other hand, what frustrates Mrs , Katula is children who
do not pay attention to all of the important things that
she has to say, In her free time, Mrs . Katula loves to
dance, exer cise, play tennis or do anything but sit still.
Some of Mrs, Kotula 's favorites: lee cream, Kevin
Costner, Garth Brooks , the color green , Where the Red
Fern Grows, basketball, tennis, and golf. Mrs , Katula
advises: " Always put your best foot forward, whether
it be in the classroom, on the field , o r on stage, "

When ask ed why she decided to
become a teacher, Mrs, Merend a
stated, " I truly like working wi th
young people, I was in the bu si-
ness world for twentv vears, bu t I
never felt a sense of ~atisfacti o n
