As/ clause 5.1.9 of IRC-83 (Part III) - 2018, the nominated design movement requirement shall be
increased by ± 20 mm in both directions of movement with a min. total movement of ± 50 mm in
bridge longitudinal direction and ± 20 mm in the bridge lateral direction unless restrained by guides.
As/ cl. 215.2 of IRC-6:2016 bridge has been designed for a temperature variation of ± 49° C.
Creep and shrinkage strain = 4.9E-4 + 1.05E-4 = 5.95 E-4
Due to temperature strain (LL) = 12 x 10E-6 x 49 x 38000 = ± 23 mm.
Due to temperature strain (TT) = 12 x 10E-6 x 49 x 5130 = ± 3.0 mm.
iii) Rotations:-
As/ clause 5.1.7 of IRC-83 (Part III) - 2018, the design rotation value shall be increased by ± 0.005
radians. Maximum design rotation shall not exceed 0.03 radians (SLS case).
