Carriageway = 9.25 m
Transverse spacing of bearing = 2.565 m

Load on each bearing due to self wt. of structure (DL+SIDL)
On outer beam = 1351 kN and on inner beam = 1300 kN.
Load on each bearing due to self wt. of structure (Surfacing)

As/ clause 5.1.9 of IRC-83 (Part III) - 2018, the nominated design movement requirement shall be
increased by ± 20 mm in both directions of movement with a min. total movement of ± 50 mm in

As/ cl. 215.2 of IRC-6:2016 bridge has been designed for a temperature variation of ± 49° C.

Due to temperature strain (LL) = 12 x 10E-6 x 49 x 38000 = ± 23 mm.
Due to temperature strain (TT) = 12 x 10E-6 x 49 x 5130 = ± 3.0 mm.

Due to creep & shrinkage strain (LL) = 5.95E-4 x 38000 = - 23 mm.


Due to creep & shrinkage strain (TT) = 5.95E-4 x 5130 = - 3.1 mm.

Total movement in LL (+) = 23mm; (-) = 23+23 = -46 mm > ± 50 mm


Total movement in TT (+) = 3.0mm; (-) = 3.0+3.1 = -6.1 mm > ± 20 mm

iii) Rotations:-

As/ clause 5.1.7 of IRC-83 (Part III) - 2018, the design rotation value shall be increased by ± 0.005
radians. Maximum design rotation shall not exceed 0.03 radians (SLS case).
Rotations has been taken from STAAD:-

For service condition:


Permanent end rotation (θ) = 0.003 + 0.005 = 0.008 radians
Transient end rotation (θ) = 0.002 radians.
Check for θv range under frequent combination = (0.75*0.002)*2 = 0.003 < 0.005 radians (OK)
Check for design rotation = 0.008+0.002 = 0.01 radians < 0.03 radians (OK)

For ultimate condition:


Permanent end rotation (θ) = 1.35*0.003 + 0.005 = 0.01 radians
Transient end rotation (θ) = 0.002*1.5 + 0.005 = 0.008 say 0.01 radians.
