Topic: Jargon Used in The Travel Industry and The Art of Negotiation

LEARNING INSIGHT

Today February 7, 2022, we have a two online session in our on-the-job training at Rajah
Travel Academy, which is the Jargon Used in The Travel Industry and the Art of
Negotiation. The Jargon Used in Travel Industry is being led by Mr. Angelo and the Art of
Negotiation is being led by Ms. Azenith of Rajah Travel Academy

In our first session with Mr. Angelo in Jargon Used In The Travel Industry, we study about
the Geography, I’ve learned that Geography is not just all about the study of places and
people and the environment, but it also examines how human culture interact with natural
environment, one of the reason it is important because it is essential to know the
conditions of other people and places that you are selling. For example, in Korea, we all
know that Korea have a four season, and not all country have a four season, so selling
a country that has four season is a huge advantage and knowing its whole geography is
also an advantage because you can sell it wisely especially to people who came from a
country without a four season or a country without a snow. All customer who didn’t
experience snow in their country will surely be glad to experience it, of course a proper
sales approach will also help you sell a country or an itinerary to a customer, and speaking
of different kind of approach in sales, Ms. Azenith teach us the different kind of approach
when talking to customer.

In our second session for today with Ms. Azenith, in the Art of Negotiation, we learned
that there are different approach when you are in sale which is the Tell-tell-tell or the
product focused approach, this a Tell-sell kind of approach where the sale only tell what
they want to sell, or focused on the product that they want and emphasize it, they only tell
the benefits and advantage of the product in the sellers perspective only and do not based
on the customers perspective, if you encounter these types of sales approach you can or
your initial interaction can be seen as imposing or pushy rather can being consultative
because they only focused on what they want to achieve rather than what the customer
want to achieve. Next kind of approach is the Consultative Engagement Process or the
customer focused sales approach, this is the approach where the seller or the one who
sells something is trying to engage the customer and try to establish their story and they
will try to engage in a two-way discussion and behave in a consultative manner, Most of
the times they are testing the customer understanding and perception value, they tend to

agree and set expectation with the customer and reconfirm the understanding of the
customer needs and expectation and then they will try to deliver the solutions with their
product and services, and of course a great sales are also excellent in the follow up or
after care service or after sales.

Topic: Designing General Tourism Marketing

LEARNING INSIGHT

Today, February 8, 2022, we only have a one session in our on-the-job training at Rajah
Travel Academy , which is the Designing General Tourism Marketing. The Designing
General Tourism Marketing is being led by Ms. Jessica of Rajah Travel Academy.

In our session with Ms. Jessica I’ve learned that in Rajah Travel Academy they have not
only 3 or 4 P’s, but they have 7’Ps, they identified it as the product, price, place,
promotion, people, process and the physical evidence. I also learned about Contiki, the
Contiki is where the people 18 to 35 years old travel together. The Contiki have its four
unique selling point first is the travel together, details sorted, unique experiences and the
contikicares.

The first unique selling point is the Travel Together, in Contiki, there is what you called
the shared travel, in Contiki you will never travel alone, if a group of people have the same
time and schedule, same itineraries and same date of travel, they tend to travel together
and that is the most important part of your trip, Contiki is the best choice if you want to
travel but don’t want to travel alone or want to travel with a huge group of people with
same interest as yours. Traveling with people who shares same interest as yours is fun,
you can eat together in the same restaurant, sleep in one hotel, enjoy same activities and
share one feelings with each other, for Contiki that is the true fun of traveling together, is
sharing same fun with each other.

The second unique selling point is the detail sorted, in Contiki, your travel process will
never be a mess. In Contiki, they sort out the best travel itineraries, they will give a
relaxing transportation, unique accommodations, be served by a professional host,
experts and guides. Data structure is the most important to efficiently used and organized
data and sorting is one of them with the help of sorting customer may easily found any
data they need from the itineraries they wanted or what they are looking for. By sorting
the details and leave the exciting part of itineraries for a customer will be a great
advantage. In, Contiki, your transportation are already arranged according to what you

want, your accommodation are also arranged for you according to what the customer
want and needs, the restaurant are also arranged for you from your breakfast, lunch and
dinner.

The third unique selling point of the Contiki is the Unique Experiences. In Contiki, you will
never experience a dull moment or boring moments when you are in your itinerary
because Contiki, offer the destinations where you can experience unique experiences. In
Contiki you have a chance to visit incredible and iconic destinations, you can also meet
local people from different places and interact with them and share each other
experiences, In Contiki, your wellnesss is also important for Contiki, so there are some in
the itinerary that will surely help you relax and focus on your wellness, Also the eating
food or the best dishes from different country is a good experience and of course when
you are in other places, it is a pleasure to witness their culture, and see their way of living,
and respect their way of life.

Topic: Appreciating Airline and Airport Operations

LEARNING INSIGHT

Today, February 9, 2022, we also have only one session like yesterday in our on-the-
job training at Rajah Travel Academy, which is the Appreciating Airline and Airport
Operations. The Appreciating Airline and Airport Operations is being led by Ms. Marj
Custodio of Rajah Travel Academy.

In our session today in Appreciating Airline and Airport Operation, I’ve learned the
different types of airlines, the Low-cost carrier airline or the LCC, Boutique Airlines and
the Legacy Carrier Airlines.

First, the Low-Cost Carrier is like the commuter service, this is the type of airline where
they only sell a seat, selling a seat means, there are no free food for the passengers, no
baggage allowance for the passengers and many more. Though they can still have it by
telling it directly to the airline. Ms. Marj identify the Southwest Airline is one of the
examples of Low-Cost Carrier Airlines. When you are in a low-cost carrier type of
airlines, the onboard food, bags and even choosing where you want to seat has a cost.
There are also some low-cost carrier types of airlines that offer not that low cost but at
the same time, not that high cost. Also, Miss Marj mentioned that there are super
affordable type of airline beside the low-cost-carrier which is the ultra-low cost airline or
the ULC.

Second is the Boutique Airline, boutique airline is gives charter and it is normally a
lifestyle branding, this is very unique because it based on the lifestyle or experiences of
the passengers. The airplane of a boutique airline is very small unlike the normal
airplane that can carry almost a hundred of passengers. Though in some cases there
are a medium sixed airplane almost nig as a normal airplane.

The third and the last type of an airline is the Legacy Airline, Legacy Airline, is type of
airline that has a very huge global network, and having huge global network means that
they have a wide network reach. Which means you can fly or book a flight from a
specific airline you want, wherever you are. For example, The Philippine Airlines has a

COLLEGE OF TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT

huge network too, that means if I want a flight form Philippines Airline even though I’m
not in the Philippines, I can still have a flight from Philippine Airline. This type of airline
has a multiple or have a lot of aircraft that can carry a lot of passengers.

In this session, I’ know now why there are some seats that are very cheap, and some
seat and it is because of the different types of airlines and the inclusions of their service.
I’ve learned that even though you are in airline industry there is a competitor, but in
airline industry it is a little different from the other business competitors because in
airline industry, they are competitor but the services they offer are little different from
each other and the prices are also different. But they are still competitor because all of
their features is an advantage.

Topic: Working on Various Content Platforms, Jargon Used in the Travel Industry and
The Art of Negotiations

LEARNING INSIGHT

Today, February 10, 2022, we have a three sessions in our on-the-job training at Rajah
Travel Academy, which is the Working on Various Content Platforms, the Jargon Used
In the Travel Industry and The Art of Negotiation. Which is the Working On Various
Content Platforms is being led by Ms. Marj Custodio, The Jargon Used in The Travel
Industry is being led by Mr. Angelo and the Art of Negotiation is being led by Ms.
Azenith.

In our first session today which is the Working on Various Content Platforms, I’ve
learned that there four different types of content platforms in travel industry or in the
airline industry. The GDS or the Global Distribution System, the Supplier Website, the
OBT, and the NDC or the New Distribution Capability. The GDS or the Global
Distribution System is where you can see the customer profiles, negotiated fares,
corporate negotiated fare, promo fare and the travel industry. The Supplier website is
where you can find negotiated fare and rich content. The OBT is where you can find
customer profile, corporate negotiated fare and travel policy. The last one is the New
Distribution Capability is where you can find promo fare and the rich content

In our second session which is the Jargon Used in the Travel Industry we study about
Africa. Africa is called the dark continent. We study the different country in the Africa
and identify their capital. Africa is the second largest continent here on earth, and also
I’ve learned that Africa is the source of the worlds longest river. The Africa is also the
place where you can find the hottest dessert.

In our third and last session today in the Art of Negotiation I’ve learned the detailed 3’Rs
Listening. First is the Receive, second is the Reflect and the last is the Rephrase.
This is very important wherever or whatever business you have but listening is a very
important part of the process in everything. Listening can solve a lot of problem can
make a solution for the client or customer. The Receive, receiving is very important in
the process, you need to process what they are saying, because if not and you
misunderstand thing you will have a problem reflecting. Second is the Reflecting,
reflecting is also the critical process of listening, because you need to absorb properly
what they saying or what they are complaining incase it is a complain, you need to able

COLLEGE OF TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT

to come up with a solution to their problem, or able to answer all their inquiries in a
certain product or service. You need to brainstorm what say to prepare what you are
going to tell them. While you are receiving information it is important that you have to
absorb and came up with a solution already while listening at the same time so that the
customer will not receive a late response from you. Lastly, is the Rephrase, this the
stage or process where you will tell the customer what they need to know and what they
wan to know and the solution they want to hear from you.

Topic: Travel Brand Training: Uniworld and Designing General Tourism Marketing

LEARNING INSIGHT

Today February 11, 2022, we have a two online session in our on-the-job training at
Rajah Travel Academy, which is the Travel Brand Training: Uniworld and Designing
General Tourism Marketing. The Travel Brand Training: Uniworld is led by Mr. Dino and
Designing General Tourism Marketing is being led by Ms. Jessica.

In our first session, which is the Travel Brand Training: Uniworld, we learned a lot about
Uniworld and it’s different kinds of ships. The Uniworld owned ships are S.S Beatrice,
S.S Joie De Vivre, S.S Maria Theresa, S.S Catherine, S.S Antoinette, S.S Bon Voyage,
S.S La Veneza, River Empress, River Princess, River Duchess and River Queen. Also
the Uniworld owned charter ships are S.S Sao Gabriel, S.S Sphinx, River Tosca, Aria
Amazon, Ganges Voyager, Sanctuary Yangzi Explorer, Mekong Jewel and River
Victoria. Serba Illich, a Yugoslavian entrepreneur, created Uniworld Boutique River
Cruises in 1976. The firm, which is based in California, began organizing river cruises
throughout Europe's canals in 1993. Uniworld sails through some of Europe's most
stunning cities and towns, as well as offering river cruises that explore the wonders of
Russia, the charm of Egypt, and the ancient civilizations of China, Vietnam, and
Cambodia, with a fleet of 21 distinct and diverse ships as of 2020. Inside, Uniworld’s
ships offer some of the most distinctive interior designs afloat, thanks to the line’s long-
standing partnership with Red Carnation Hotels. The emphasis here is on classically
modern European elegance, with interiors designed to resemble baroque opulence, Art
Deco chic, or the classic, wood-paneled lounges and public rooms of some of Europe’s
greatest liners, trains and hotels. No two ships are alike, and each boasts its own
unique Uniworld fit and feel. Uniworld recognizes the importance of personal wellness
for passengers and offers a variety of services onboard and ashore to treat the mind,
body, and spirit. I’ve learned that The River Queen, constructed in 1999, is
unquestionably one of the line's most unique ships. The River Queen was extensively
restored in 2010 to embody the traditional grandeur and elegance of the 1930's Art
Deco style, while her external design pays homage to iconic turn-of-the-century
steamships. She's one of the most unique – and traditional – river cruise ships on the
market.

I’ve learned that Uniworld is a very huge company that are perfect for everyone’s
vacation, they have unique and different approach like styling their interior in different

ways, staying on a cruise ship that compliment are the aspect a cruise ships must have
is very essential to a passengers, especially if the passengers is there to relax and not
to do some business matters. But, if you are on business trip, Uniworld will still not
disappoint you either. Because you can still enjoy the features of the cruise while you
are doing your business.

In our last session I’ve learned the different sustainable tips for a travel first is keep up
the good work, second is the spend your travel money wisely and last is to keep
traveling and tread lightly.
