VALUING JUDGMENT ON CRITICAL ISSUES

I. Learning Competency with Code

MELC: React to lay value judgment on critical issues that demand sound analysis
and call for prompt actions (EN9VC-IVh-14)

II. Background Information for Learner

As an adolescent, your life is surrounded by different circumstances which most of the

time require you to make tough decisions and mind-boggling choices. You are at the point
where every choice you make matters.

At this time, you must have grown into a person who views life with deeper meaning
and sees every perplexity as an opportunity to make sound judgments and better
preferences.

What is value judgment?

A value judgment is a claim about something's moral, practical, or aesthetic worth.

Value judgments do not simply describe the world; they prescribe certain attitudes or
behaviors toward the world.

In the Philippine educational system, Filipino children improve their value judgment
skills through a values education subject entitled “Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao”. This subject
develops learner’s skills for rational thinking and judgments. It also uses the experiential
approach and revolves around the four core values: Maka-Diyos, Makakalikasan, Makatao,
and Makabansa.

IV. Activity Proper

Activity 1. READ AND UNDERSTAND

Direction: Read the following important information about the Coronavirus disease.

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious

disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus.

Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will

experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover
without requiring special treatment. Older people, and
those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular
disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer
are more likely to develop serious illness.

The best way to prevent and slow down

transmission is to be well-informed about the
COVID-19 virus, the disease it causes and how it
spreads. Protect yourself and others from
infection by washing your hands and using an
alcohol based rub frequently and avoid touching
your face.

The COVID-19 virus spreads primarily

through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose
when an infected person coughs or sneezes, so it’s
important that you practice respiratory etiquette (for
example, by coughing into a flexed elbow).
At this time, there are no specific vaccines or
treatments for COVID-19. However, there are many
on-going clinical trials evaluating potential
treatments.
