After learning about the different stages of the plant’s life cycle the students are prompted to think
of questions, they could ask to determine the specific stage of the life cycle. These questions are
then posted on the Padlet for the class to view.
How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:
☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by
teacher direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the
student and mostly practice based.
X Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic
of learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The
teacher facilitates the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.
☐ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems
and completing projects to demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared
outside of the classroom. (Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the
school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another
class, or publishing via an outside source.)
The lesson will begin with the teacher asking, “What can you tell me about how a plant grows?” to
create a discussion of the background knowledge students have about the plant life cycle. Students

will then access the Padlet and follow through the questions and posts within. The Padlet contains
content and assessment. The students will first watch a video explaining the life cycle of a plant and
the vocabulary that we use to describe each stage. Then the students will create drawings of their
favorite life cycle stage. Next the students will view photos of a plant in each stage of the life cycle.
Next the students will take a quiz using Quizziz.com. The teacher will be able to immediately view
the results of this quiz. To end this lesson the students will be asked which questions they can ask to
determine which stage of the life cycle a plant is in. The questions will be posted on the Padlet for
the class to view.
Managing student learning:
This lesson will create a shift in behavior from passive to active behavior using the tool of the Padlet.
Students will be active during the time they have to watch a video, create a drawing, take a quiz, and
post a question. Using the Padlet creates active engagement within the students and allows them to
be creative in expressing their knowledge. Students will also collaborate with their peers during this
process by responding to their drawings and answering their questions.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL):
This lesson supports the UDL through representation because there are many ways the students can
learn the content. Students will be engaged using the Padlet to view the video, draw a picture,
observe the photos, take a quiz, and create a question for their peers. Using the Padlet within the
lesson also incorporates visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles. Action and Expression are
also implemented in the lesson through the use of multiple means to express their learning and
demonstrate their knowledge.
Reflective Practice:
This tool will build understanding for students through the interactivity of learning using Padlet.
Students will be more engaged in the lesson using active learning. Students are also able to be
creative through the use of drawing pictures and creating questions. I look forward to seeing what
my students can create and how they can demonstrate their knowledge.
