IV. PROCEDURES
A. Introduction

In this pandemic time, we are adapting a new normal way

of living. We must follow and observe the protocols imposed by
the government for our safety. Wearing face mask, observing
social distance, and staying at home are top things that should be
kept in mind.
I. Rate My Feelings
Directions: Read and analyze each statement. Rate on what extent do
you agree or disagree with each of the following.
5 4 3 2 1
STRONGL STRONGLY
AGREE NEUTRAL DISAGREE
Y AGREE DISAGREE

1. My grandmother said that doctors are the smartest people on

the planet.
2. Our school is going to implement face-to-face classes during
the class opening.
3. Students will be given tablets in the new normal school setting.
4. Malls are not allowing children to enter in their establishment.
5. The “no vaccination, no ride” rule ordered that unvaccinated
people are not allowed in any public transportation.

B. Development
One of the best ways for the author to express his/her
feelings, beliefs, and ideas in a direct way is by asserting.
Assertion is used to let the readers feel that they should agree
what they read or hear. It is very common in various fields of life,
like literature, politics, and advertisements.

Sample assertion: When you eat an apple, you are free from any
illness.

As the readers’ response to what is asserted in a text, a

reaction is being made. Reaction is an action taken in response
to something. Reacting to assertion is an essential skill in
language learning. Making reactions will allow readers to express
their thoughts and feelings about the text or situations presented.
One can decide to agree or disagree on the given text.

Sample reaction to the above sample assertion: Truly, I eat an

apple every day and I don’t get sick easily.

These are some words to use in giving reactions.

Things to remember in reacting to assertions made by the author
in a text:
 Read and understand the texts.
 Analyze the assertion made by the author.
 State your reaction clearly.
 Support your ideas and opinions by explaining your stand.

Here are sample statements of assertion and reaction:

A. Assertion: Drinking a glass of milk can make our bones and
teeth healthy and strong.
Reaction: Yes, I drink a glass of milk every day and it makes
my bones and teeth healthy and strong.
B. Assertion: My friend Sheila invites me to eat at Jollibee since
it is the best fast food in town
Reaction: No, I will not go with her because my mother said
that it is not safe in there. Besides, it is not the best fast food in
town.

II. Let’s Try

reaction by choosing the letter of the best answer.

c. It is not exciting to have picnic at the beach.
d. It is very fun to play volleyball at the beach
C. Engagement
Another important thing to remember about asserting a text
is knowing facts and opinions.
Study the statements below:
Statement 1:Tondo is the largest district in Manila and the most
densely populated.
Statement 2: Tondo is home to the toughest and most resilient
Filipinos I know.

To know the reliability and utility of information or statement, it is

vital to understand the difference between facts and opinions to
evaluate things and draw conclusions.

A fact is a statement that is true and can be verified or proven

objectively.
An opinion is a statement that holds an element of belief or a
personal view about a
subject.

III. What’s More
