1. Abstract:
Industrialization plays a vital role in the development of any
country. Industries provide job opportunities and fulfilling the
requirement of people. Pakistan is a developing country and
about 18℅ of gross domestic product (GDP) is provided by the
industrial zone. This means that industries play a role of
backbone in the development of the economic growth of Pakista
Industry is the backbone of every country which lead the country
towards economic growth, prosperity and development of the
country. As we known that the Pakistan is one of the developing
country in the world. Its economy depends on the large scale
industries and also on small scale industries. But with the
increase in the industries there are also a lot of environmental
issue like water pollution. It seems that the biggest cause of
pollution is industrial polluted water which is directly discharged
into the streams without any waste water treatment. There are
many technologies used for the waste water treatment for
example membrane filtration, sedimentation, chemical
treatment etc.
2. Introduction:
Industry is the backbone of every prosperous country in the
world. According to the report the economy of Pakistan is the
47th largest in the whole world in nominal terms. The total
economic sector of Pakistan is divided into three major
categories which help the country to maintain the GDP. At the
time of partition, the industry sector is in its bad condition but
with the passage of time the industial sector grow and
flourished.
3. Major industries of Pakistan:

3
There are two types of industries large scale industry and small
scale industry both help the country to maintain the GDP and
economy. Some major industries are as follow:
• Fertilizer.
• Cement.
• Pharmaceutical.
• Textile.
• Steel.
• Sugar.
4. Industrial pollution:
As we know that the todays world is full of industrialization and
due to this many environmental issues and other problems take
place. The environmental issues take place due to the
industrialization are as follow:
• Water pollution.
• Air pollution.
• Noise pollution.
• Soil pollution.
The most dangerous pollution which cause many effect on human and
as well as animal is water pollution. There are many sources of water
pollution but about 65 to 70% of water pollution is caused by the
untreated industrial waste water. Industries discharge their waste
direct into the streams and ponds which disturb the Ph. of water and
disturb the aquatic life and also life on earth. There are many health
problems occurs due to this pollution like lungs problem etc.
The industrial waste water contains many dangerous chemicals and
heavy salt which cannot dissolve by the human body as well as aquatic
bodies. So this leads toward many heath issues and other
environmental issues.
4.1. Types of industrial waste:
The industrial waste water mainly consists of

4
• Small metal pieces.
• Oil.
• Solvents.
• Gravel and dirt.
• Chemicals.
• Scrap.
• Concrete and masonry.

4.2. Waste water treatment methods:

There are three methods used for the water treatment in industries
which are as follow:
• Screening.
• Chemical treatment.
• Sludge or sedimentation process.
4.2.1. Sludge process:
The residue that accumulates in sewage treatment plants is called
sludge. Sewage sludge is the solid, semisolid, or slurry residual
material that is produced as a by-product of wastewater treatment
processes. This residue is commonly classified as primary and
secondary sludge. Primary sludge is generated from chemical
precipitation, sedimentation, and other primary processes, whereas
secondary sludge is the activated waste biomass resulting from
biological treatments. Some sewage plants also receive septage or
septic tank solids from household on-site wastewater treatment
systems. Quite often the sludge’s are combined together for further
treatment and disposal.
