Assessment 1

Assessment 1

This is an individual Assessment in which you will be assessed on your own contribution.

There are 9 parts to this Assessment– you must complete all 9 parts. Make sure you
read each part to clearly understand what is required. Refer to the provided Case Study
for the Assessment Task scenario.

Your assessor will play the role of any of the stakeholders if you require clarification
about any of the activities or the design brief, and for signing off purposes – you should
contact your assessor directly if you are unsure of anything.

TASK 1A – UNDERTAKE COMPETITOR RESEARCH

Based on the provided scenario, you need to identify two real-world competitors who
are RTO’s that provide nationally recognised qualifications.

For each of these competitors, you need to identify:

1. The URL for each website

2. The target audience for each website, and any design decisions that have been
implemented based on the target audience

3. What functionality each website offers to its users

4. How each website’s content is structured to provide information to the users

TASK 1B – IDENTIFY WEBSITE PURPOSE AND TARGET AUDIENCE

Based on the provided scenario, you need to identify the purpose of the website and
two possible target audience groups for the website. You must document:

1. What you believe the purpose of the website is designed to achieve

Then for each of the two identified target audience groups, you need to:

2. Specify details about their demographics (age group, gender, income level, etc.),
geography and psychographics

3. Explain one design influence/decision you will make based on that audience group

TASK 1C – IDENTIFY REQUIRED TECHNOLOGIES

Based on the provided scenario, you need to identify the system components and
configuration, and development tools you will be using to construct the website by
providing written answers for each of the following.

1. The development tool and platform (if any) that will be used to construct the website

2. The languages that the website will be used for constructing the website, including
both client-side and server-side

3. The back-end tool used to manage the back-end of the website

4. The back-end database that will be used by the website

5. Any plug-ins or tools that will be used to develop or deploy the website

6. Any features of Application Programming Interface (API) that will be used for
integration to 3rd party web services

7. Any website reporting requirements or report generation tools (if any)

8. A brief description of what classes and objects will be used in the object-oriented
programming elements

Note that the assessor will play the role of a senior SME for this task, so you must
discuss your selections with them prior to submission to ensure that you have made the
best selections that are applicable to the client’s requirements.

TASK 1D – IDENTIFY WEBSITE INDUSTRY STANDARDS

Based on the provided scenario, you need to identify two web industry standards (or
code of practice) that are currently used by web designers.

For each of these standards, you need to:

1. Provide an overview of the standard (or code of practice)

2. Explain why the standard may affect the technologies, delivery platforms or plug-ins
that you plan to use during development

3. Explain how you will meet the standard in the developed website and include
potential issues or challenges that you may have to overcome in the development
process

TASK 1E – IDENTIFY PRIVACY AND COPYRIGHT REQUIREMENTS

Based on the provided scenario, you need to:

legislation in Australia that web developers must follow

2. Provide a brief overview of copyright protection requirements for intellectual property

in Australia and what issues can occur if copyright is not managed effectively

3. Explain how web development companies manage media files used in websites to
ensure copyright issues are minimised or mitigated entirely

TASK 1F– DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS AND SIGN-OFF

Based on the provided scenario, complete the Requirements Document template, listing
at least 10 functional requirements of the website.

You should consult with the client (assessor) for any further clarification on the design
brief if you require help in developing the functional requirements.

Once you have completed the Website Requirements Document, this must be signed
off by the client. If the client is unhappy about any of the requirements you will be asked
to undertake re-design until the client is happy to sign-off on these requirements.

TASK 1G – DETERMINE DEVELOPMENT SCHEDULE

Based on the provided scenario, you need to develop a WBS using a tool of your choice
that specifies:

1. A list of activities built around milestones

2. An estimate of the timeline needed to complete the project

3. At least one development resource assigned to each activity

4. A completion timeline that fits within the project development timeline constraint

5. An estimated overall budget for this project to be successfully completed

Once you have completed the WBS, the client needs to review this to determine
whether the scheduled timeframe fits in with their delivery plans. If the client is unhappy
any of the scheduling, you need to find out what the client is unhappy about and
undertake re-design until the client is happy to sign-off on these development schedule.
