Commencement Address from the Iloilo City Mayor

O ne of the most effective ways in order to

adapt to the real work situation and contribute to
the development of the society is the vocational
education with programs focus on the acquisition of
skills, abilities and competencies.

The Technical Institute of Iloilo City has always been

committed in producing globally competent graduates. And
today, we gather in this virtual platform to celebrate the
milestone of this institution. The theme, “Strengthening the
Quality of Tech-Voc Education for the Ilonggos amid the COVID-
19 Pandemic, reminds us that even in these most challenging
times we should not stop from learning and achieving great
things. This pandemic has given us the opportunity to reflect
and fully understand our roles in the society. And thus, we have been given more importance to the things
that we need and those truly matter and education is one of them.

This may not be the best time to celebrate milestone. However, let us not allow this pandemic to
devalue the worth that you have done very hard so that you can successfully hurdle education. Be with you,
not just the lesson of Tech-Voc Education, but the lessons of life in general. And these are the good value of
unity, understanding, family and love. Remember that in times of tragedy and disaster, we become equal
and nobody is paired. However as long as we embrace goodness in our hearts, we will all be able to survive
all challenges by working together for the common good. Once again congratulations to the new graduates
of the Technical Institute of Iloilo City.

S ometimes we are asked what is important,
education? Or skills? Well, there are debate as to these two. But
let me just say this, Education is to gain knowledge or to learn
things while skills is the ability to do something well or expertise
in something. Both are important to be a master of anything.
Which is why it is pride and honor to congratulate our
graduates of the Technical Institute of Iloilo City, for they found
a way to get both education and their skills to equip them with
necessary armor needed in the new normal. May it be
innovative, creative and supportive of any industry they would promote self-fulfillment and growth. The
Institute has prepared you well and we will be sending you off today as we are ready to see you spread your
wings. Because what comes after education and skills is your experience. You may not have the years of
working experience now but you have plenty of time to show us your potential. Let allOFFICE
REGISTRAR’S of the learnings you
had from the school prepare you to what lies ahead after you graduate. To the mentors, the teachers thank
you for helping us and guiding us through the years in molding the minds and the hearts of our learners to
be what they need to be. And to our graduates, thank you for choosing to educate yourself and to train
yourself and for always believing that you are braver than you think more talented than you know and more
capable than you imagine. So when the time comes when you are interviewed by a company. you say, I am

ongratulations to the graduates of the 2-year Technology
Courses as to the completers of the various Technical Vocational
Education and Training (TVET) Programs. Education is indeed a great
leveler; it has the ability to change our lives for the better. And we
thank that the Technical Institute of Iloilo City for equipping you with
the skills and know how to create the future you desire for yourselves
and your love ones. The beauty of your educational program is that it
has provided you with the flexibility to be immersed in what really gone
as the real world as well as with the protection that comes from an
academic institution. Your knowledge of the working environment and
the practical skills you acquired have hopefully given you appreciation of the advantages of both working
hard and working smart. This situation of ours are bit different for what it is used to be. The changes the
way information is relayed and consumed must have been difficult for both students and teachers alike.
However, this graduation ceremony is a testament that we push forward and overcome this hardship and
emerge successfully. Your perseverance and commitment will help you achieve anything you put your hearts
and minds to it.

Let me share to you three things. First, start with an end in mind. It means that you have a clear
vision of what you want to achieve. From there you can plan how long this going to take and what you need
to get there. Secondly, accept change and be willing to adapt, the skills that you have are dependent on
technology. And as technology continue to evolve so should you. Through this, you can be assured you have
been able to continue with your craft. And lastly, when the burdens of life become heavy to carry, ask for
help. Your families and friends, instructors at TIIC, as well as the community you are part always be willing
to lend you a hand.

We, at the government, have also been working to ensure that every one is given the Ocular Inspection for Construction Painting NC II- Congratulations to Technical Institute of Iloilo City
opportunity to live better lives. It is for this reason that our GUGMA and HOPE for Iloilo City include Molo Campus for being a 100% compliant to the On-site Ocular Inspection for program registration in
improving OBRA in educational opportunities for every Ilonggos through R.A No. 10687 (Unified Financial Construction Painting NC II.
Assistance System For Ensuring Education Act – UNIFAST) we are able to provide education to our fellow
Filipinos. Further, as your Representative in Congress, we have secure allocations for individuals who wish to
pursue Technical Vocational Trainings. May this Three Nuggets of Wisdom guide you as you work at the
next phase of your lives. To close, let me share you a quote from Henry David Thoreau “Go confidently in the
directions of your dreams, live the live you have imagined”. Again, Congratulations! To our dear graduates
as well as to everyone who shares in their achievement. May God bless you all abundantly! Thank you
graduates and Padayon kita sa pagbato sa sin inga Pandemiya! God bless every one!

I
t is indeed a great honor for me to give a warm greeting to
all the graduates of Batch 2020-2021 of Technical Institute of Iloilo City
Molo Campus. This school year is obviously going to be remembered by
all of us with mix emotions. This is the most painful year every learner
and perhaps all of us may have seen or experience in modern history.
Many stories may be quite similar, but having struggled picture by
every individual will always be different. Travel, Sports, Leisure, and

Page 5
The difficulties have seen in the faces of every learner and say it all, this are all too many. Just to
name the few, the sudden change occur the way classes are conducted affected all learners. The
Challenging role of the parents and guardian who assist every child to learn has been overwhelming and the
learning approach while at home seem to have shifted. The Department of Education, however, stood firm
and made sure schooling continues being modular, online, blended radio-based, television-based and other
pre-arranged modalities and that quality education will not be restrained or restricted or obstacles of any
kind.

Indeed, the theme for this graduation Strengthening the Quality of Education amid COVID -19
pandemic is fitting for it could speak of all the efforts one has put in response to the enormous challenges at
time. You, our dear graduates have survived and maturely prevail again if you keep faith with the almighty.
Let us not be bothered by distractions of the pandemic or whatever. It is best to remain in focus at your
goals in life by working even harder, honing your skills in planning on how you can become that your Alma
Mater respects you to become as you continue your journey for your future. Always bear in mind that
difficult times are temporary somewhere along the way you will find yourself in a path leaning directly to
what you have always hope for in time.

Warm wishes, also to the parents, guardians and teachers who owe the love and will be there
beside you all the years and you will be completing in your studies. Congratulations! And Cheers to a fruitful
and enjoyable journey.

My warmest greetings and heartfelt congratulations to the Technical Institute of Iloilo

City graduating and honour students and family, the faculty, staff and the administration
officials on the occasion of our 26th Commencement Exercises.

We test and we feel the struggle in this time of crisis, but the advocacy of giving quality
education and producing globally competitive students was always our mission as your
teacher/Instructor. We are proud that in this type of situation you also fight to reach your goals
and here it is. Struggling in searching signals, weak internet connection, defective gadgets and
other related issues during online classes is our major concerns.

I was glad that you surpass those circumstances and I believe that you are ready for
the next journey of your life.

Hoping that you will apply the values attitude and skills that you learn from TIIC for
your entire career and make your instructors and school proud. Mabuhay!

most especially our parents, to our friends, fellow graduates,
ladies and gentlemen, a pleasant morning to all of you.

Today marks a momentous day to us – a significant

chapter of a student’s life. Before I entered this institution, I was
clueless. At first, All I know was this is a TESDA accredited school. I
was in doubt of entering the institution but in the end, I found
myself here become one of its students. It’s been a long two years,
but here we are today, taking our last step of our journey as a
student, marking another success in our life. We worked hard to
earn these points, but we can’t do it by ourselves. We owe this
hard work to the people who supported us on our journey.

To our instructors, we really appreciate for sharing your time, talent, and knowledge to us. You
did not hesitate to take your time explaining the lessons and repeating the assignments to us when

Effective technical and vocational trainings is one of

the priorities of TIIC MOLO. These trainings are crucial in
preparing workers to be resilient in working amidst these
trying times. With the help of the city government and tesda,
you have been given the opportunity to be trained in various
skills trainings that will equip you for a gainful employment
not only here, but in abroad.

It may not have been easy for us considering the

pandemic we are facing, but don’t lose hope. Do not let this
trial be a hindrance in becoming successful. As long as you
are equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitudes that you
have learned here, I am sure you will achieve everything.

I am happy to be part of your success. I wish you all the best and I look forward to
seeing you transform your lives into something better. Congratulations.
