Chapter 3

Methodology

The methodology for the descriptive survey research study is described in this
chapter. According to Dr. Y.P. Aggarwal (2008) descriptive research is devoted to the
gathering of information about prevailing conditions or situations for the purpose of
description and interpretation. This type of research method is not simply amassing and
tabulating facts but includes proper analyses, interpretation, comparisons, identification
of trends and relationships.

Place or Setting of the Study

This study took place at Lambunao National High School- Senior High School
campus in Lambunao, Iloilo.

Description of the Participants

Subjects for this research are the Grade 12 learners of Lambunao National High
School. In this research, the subjects are the Grade 12 learners enrolled in the
Academic and TVL track. The subject of research is selected using the purposive
sampling method. Purposive sampling, according to Etikan, Musa, and Alkassim (2016)
is the deliberate choice of a participant due to the qualities the participant possesses. It
is a non-random technique that does not need underlying theories or a set number of
participants. Simply put, the researcher decides what needs to be known and sets out
to find people who can and are willing to provide the information by virtue of
knowledge or experience.

Statistical Treatment
The statistical treatment used in this study is multiple correlation. It is used to
test if the independent variables have influence on the dependent variable.

Instrument of the Study

The data collection is through the use of the web-based questionnaire. Web-
based questionnaires, also known as online surveys, are an increasingly popular
surveying tool for learning about a population's attitudes and sentiments, which is
critical for understanding quality of life. Thus, in this study, data is analyzed using
cross-tabulation. Cross tabulation is a method to quantitatively analyze the relationship
between multiple variables.

Data Gathering Procedure

Permission to conduct the study will be secured from the Dean of the
College of Education through the recommendation of the research coordinator. After
the permit is approved/granted, the researchers immediately administer the researcher
adopted instrument to Grade 12 students Lambunao National High School- Senior High
School S.Y. 2021-2022 through an online survey. Instructions will be given on how to
answer the survey questionnaire and they were assured that the answers given will be
treated confidentially. After the respondents have answered/accomplished the
questionnaire, the data will be retrieved, tallied, analyzed, and interpreted.

Research Design
The descriptive survey design is used in this study. It is used because it aims to
analyze and interpret survey data. The survey data will be analyzed to determine the
motivation for language acquisition of Lambunao National High School Grade 12
students. According to Manuel and Medel (1976), descriptive research involves the
description, recording, analysis and interpretation of the present nature, composition, or
process of phenomena. The focus is on the prevailing conditions, on how a person,
group, or thing behaves or functions at the time of the study.
