 About the College
Ayodhya Prasad Singh Memorial College Barauni, is a constituent unit of Lalit Narayan Mithila
University, Darbhanga. The college started its journey in 1959 under affiliation of the then
Bihar University, Muzaffarpur. It is situated at the vicinity of industrial and agricultural hub
of Begusarai District. The college has been imparting co-education in almost all the subjects
of Arts and Science stream since beginning. Lately, different courses at PG level in Botany,
Chemistry, Economics, English, Hindi, History, Mathematics, Physics, Political Science, Psychology,
and Zoology subjects have also been started. The college is well connected to the road and
railway as it is at walking distance from Barauni Junction.

About the Theme

Information & communication technology (ICT) is an umbrella term that covers all kinds of
communication devices, encompassing radio, television, cell phones, computer, network
hardware, satellite systems. It also refers to the various services and appliances that store,
retrieve, manipulate, transmit, or receive information electronically or digitally such as internet,
computer including smartphones, digital television, emails, robots, online games, social media,
digital media, etc.___________________________________________________________

It is impossible to imagine life without ICT at least in the last decade. ICT has not only heavily
influenced our all walks of life but considerably paved its direction and outcome. Be it video
game or online video game that is shaping our children’s imagination at the cost of physical
games and book reading habits._______________________________________________

Be it YouTube or Google or any search engine for that matter which is challenging the
conventional role of a teacher as a source of knowledge. If anybody needs to know anything
he/she just google it rather than bothers to seek a teacher’s aid. Many digital platforms like
Byju and Un-academy are also available challenging the formal face-to-face education.___

Be it propagation of ideology of any political party or even government of the day, internet
has been proved as the most suitable and cost-effective way. The allegation on social media
giant, Facebook of influencing the American Presidential Election in which Donald Trump was
victorious is a case in point. If we talk about the market and economy, we can’t avoid the role
of online or digital market. In fact, today brick and mortar market is facing great challenge
from online shopping giants. The buying patterns of buyers has changed considerably.____

The intrusive nature of social media and our fondness of it do not warrant any separate
mentioning. Rumors and misinformation become parts of history in no time, thanks to social
media and disrupts the social and communal harmony. Today, how we think and even what
we think are steered by the ICT giving us false sense that we think independently and
discreetly. In a nutshell, be it our thinking and behavior, politics and governance, economy
and market, education, History or Sociology everything is being impacted by ICT. Given the
omnipotent and omnipresent role of ICT in our life, it is need of the hour that we engage
ourselves in this scholarly debate._______________________________________________
