15. 3 bells ring at an interval of 4,7 and 14 minutes. All three bell rang at 6 am, when 2
the three balls will the ring together next?
Solution:
4 = 2 x 2 7 = 7 x 1 14 = 2 x 7 LCM = 2 x 2 x 7 = 28
The three bells will ring together again at 6:28 am
OR
Find the HCF and LCM of 404 and 96 using Euclid’s Algorithm.
Solution:
404=96×4+20
96=20×4+16
20=16×1+4
16=4×4+0
thus, the HCF of 96 and 404 is 4.
16. Find the zeroes of the quadratic polynomial 5x2 – 4 – 8x and verify the 2
relationship between the zeroes and the coefficient of the polynomial.

Solution:

17. Find the values of a and b, so that the system of equations has infinite number 2
of solutions:
(a – 1) x + 3y = 2; 6x + (1 – 2b) y = 6
Solution:
As Given
The given system of equations will be having infinite number of solutions, if.

18. A man when asked how many hens and goats he has, told that his animals have 2
120 eyes and 180 legs. how many hens and goats has he?
Solution:
Let no. of hens =x, no of goats =y
2x+2y= 120 ------1
2x+4y= 180 ------2
By solving.
X = 30, y=30.
19. Obtain other zeroes of the polynomial f(x) = 2 x 4 +3 x3 −5 x 2−9 x −3 if its zeroes 3
are√ 3∧− √ 3 .
OR
If α and β are zeroes of the quadratic polynomial x2 – 6x + a; find the value of
‘a’ if 3α + 2β = 20
Solution:
Given α and β are the roots.
To find a, if 3 α + 2 β = 20.  ---(1)

From the quadratic expression:

    α + β = 6       ---(2)
    and   α β = a --- (3)

Multiply equation (2) by 2 and subtract from (1) to get:

    α = 20 -12 = 8

Substitute this value in (2) to get:

     β = 6-8 = -2

Substitute these in (3) to get:    a = α β = -16.

20. Given that √ 3 is an irrational number, prove that? (2+ √ 3) is an irrational 3
number.
Solution
Let 2+√3 be a rational number.

So, 2+√3 = a/b where a and b are integers

√3 = a/b -2

a/b is a rational number and 2 is a rational number. We know that

Rational number- rational number = Rational number.
So, a/b -2 is rational.

But √3 is irrational.

This contradicts the fact that rational ≠ irrational.

So, our supposition is incorrect.

Hence, 2+√3 is an irrational number.

21. Solve the pair of equations for x and y: 3
2 3 5 4
+ =11; − =−7
x y x y

Hence find the value of 5 x – 3 y .

Solution:

22. A number consists of two digits. When the number is divided by the sum of its 3
digits, the quotient is 7. If 27 is subtracted from the number, the digits
interchange their places, find the number.
Solution:

Eq.1 (10A+B)/(A+B) = 7

10A + B = 7A + 7B

3A - 6B = 0

A = 2B

Eq. 2 10A + B - 27 = 10B + A

9A - 9B -27 = 0

A -B - 3 = 0

2B - B = 3

Page 8 of 9
so, B = 3 and A = 6 and the number is 63

23. Work done by 2 men in 1 day =2/x 5

work done by 7 boys in 1 day =7/y
According to the question,
Work done by 2 men and 7 boys in 1 day =1/4
Thus, 2/x+7/y=1/4 ....(i)
work done by 4 men in 1 day = 4/x
  work done by 4 boys in 1 day = 4/y
Work done by 4 men and 4 boys in 1 day =1/3
4/x+4/y = 1/3 ………. (ii)
Putting 1/x = a 1/y = b
2a+7b = ¼ 4a+4b = 1/3
By solving a = 1/15 b = 1/60
Therefore x = 15, y = 60 Time taken by one man alone is 15 days (about 2 weeks)
and boy by 60
days.

24. Area =528 m 5
Let Breadth be b, Then length l=2b+1
So (b)(2b+1) =528 ⇒2b2+b−528=0 ⇒2b2−32b+33b−528=0
⇒2b(b−16) +33(b−16) =0 ⇒(2b+33) (b−16) =0
So, b=16 l=33.
OR
Let the marks in science be x.
Then, the marks in English will be 30 - x.
According to the question,
(x + 2) (30 - x - 3) = 210
(x + 2) (27 - x) = 210
⇒ -x2 + 25x + 54 = 210
⇒ x2 - 25x + 156 = 0
⇒ x2 - 12x - 13x + 156 = 0
⇒ x (x - 12) -13(x - 12) = 0
⇒ (x - 12) (x - 13) = 0
⇒ x = 12, 13
If the marks in science is 12, then marks in English will be 30 - 12 = 18
If the marks in science is 13, then marks in English will be 30 - 13 = 17
