CIDS − SMOKE DETECTION FUNCTION (OPTIONAL)

General
The SDF (Smoke Detection Function) is an CIDS (Cabin Intercommunication
Data System) integrated, but autonomous processing system. CIDS−SDF is
only available if the aircraft configuration is supposed for this option.
CIDS-SDF replaces the SDCU (Smoke Detection Control Unit).

Architecture
Each CIDS director contains one additional SDF board. Each SDF board has a
separated power supply.
The SDF is detecting smoke in the cabin via smoke sensors connected to the
CIDS DEU−B and in the cargo compartments via smoke sensors connected
directly to the SDF board.
The cargo and avionic Smoke Detectors are connected via a CAN (Controller
Area Network) bus.

Interfaces
The SDF boards have interfaces to:
S CIDS Mainboard
S FWC
S CMC
S Smoke Detectors via 4 CAN Buses
S Control Panel

the cabin. Smoke detections from the cargo compartments are indicated in the
cockpit only. The cockpit crew can release the fire extinguisher in the cargo
compartment via SDF.

The SDCU supplies 28 V DC to the smoke detectors 7WB and 8WB. The
SDCU has two closed circuits which are referred to as loop A and loop B. Each
loop is a two−wire data and supply−bus. The smoke detector 7WB is
connected to loop A, and the smoke detector 8WB is connected to loop B.
The supply is protected to make sure that the detector can operate with the
subsequent failures:

INDICATIONS
Smoke Warnings
When the SDCU confirms smoke detection in the VCC or IFEC, it supplies a
smoke warning signal:
S In the cockpit, to the FWC (Flight Warning Computer) : CRC (Continuous
Repetitive Chime), MASTER WARNING, EWD (ECAM Warning Display), to
the SMOKE Light in the PAX SYSTEM Switch and to the CMC (Central
Maintenance Computer),
S In the cabin through the CIDS (Cabin Intercommunication Data System) on
the FAP (Flight Attendant Panel) and the AIP (Attendant Indication Panels).
After smoke is detected, the SDCU (Smoke Detection Control Unit) transmits a
signal to the CIDS director. The director sends a signal to the FAP where the
SMOKE page comes up automatically. On the SMOKE page, the location of
the smoke alert is displayed.
In case of a smoke alert, the director transmits a signal to the type A DEUs.
The type A DEUs activates a chime sequence in the loudspeaker. The
respective ACP light segment flashes and the related message is shown on the
assigned AIP. A smoke alert from the lavatory activates the respective flashing
lavatory call light.
If smoke is no longer detected, the SDCU automatically resets all visual and
aural indications. To reset the visual and aural indication in the cabin manually
you have to push the SMOKE RESET button either on the SMOKE page on
the FAP, on the FAP hard key or on the AAP. This affects only the cabin
indications. The FAP SMOKE Page and the various smoke messages stay
displayed as long as the smoke condition persists.
